We’re two guys (Owen and Sion) who’ve decided to start spending our money/time/sanity on creating a small independent D.I.Y comic publishing press. We met because we’ve played in and are playing in bands (Joanna Gruesome and Saturday’s Kids respectively) that have been involved in what can broadly be described as a ‘UK DIY scene’. After realising we had a mutual interest in comics/graphic novels/graphic narratives and the comix explosion we’re experiencing in the UK right now, we figured it would be cool to apply the production/artistic ethic (the way we make records) that informs us musically to the creation of comic books. Seemed like a fun way to lose money.
Anyway here is our first release, it came out about a week ago we had a release show with bands etc in jacobs market cardiff and we have already sold out half our press so i don't think they will be around for too long.

SJP 001- This is Space Junkie Press' first ever release. THE GUTTER , named so after the spaces between panels in comic books, is an anthology of 2-page black and white strips.
We’ve drawn from a diverse pool of artists we admire/are friends with/ have stalked from a distance and compiled a 24 page (A4 comic book with colour card back + front).
The tone of these stories varies from dark to hallucinatory to stoned to heart-warming. Some strips were completed by artists who’d never drawn a comic before, some strips are from people with impressive back-catalogues. There was no thematic premise as such, but it definitely feels like there’s been a weird consistency to all of our submissions. Expect strips from artists such as Sam Watkins/Dean Smithers, Gemma Batten, our own Sion Thomas . The cover was done by Christopher Guest.
THE GUTTER #2 will be hitting the shelves sometime in November.
