DEATH TO TYRANTS – untitled ep 7“ (Tor Johnson - Death to Tyrants hadn't played together for six years when they were asked to do a set at the Ampere 10 Year Anniversary Show in 2012. Dusting off the old laboratory and getting the machinery humming and whirring again was easier than they thought, and once the cobwebs were cleared, things began to rip. Now, a couple years later, they are ready to unleash their first recordings since Wake Up & Be. From controlled chaos to mellower frequencies, this three song ep has them firing on all cylinders with songs for fans of everything from This Will Destroy You to Hot Cross; the consummate scientists.) 5.00
MARK MALLMAN / THE COKE DARES – split 7“ (Nodak - The 7_ vinyl single is still alive, and back in all its Nodak glory. That is a record company called Nodak records is currently revitalizing the lost culture of the 7_ vinyl single. Nodak Records most recently put their fourth release, a split single between Minneapolis native Mark Mallman along side likes of The Coke Dares. The A side, Mallmans “In Love Witcha” is a darker expedition into his sound, but not with out a little twisted fun along the way. The Coke Dares has toured along side Magnolia Electric Co., Impossible Shapes, and Jens Lekman. Their songs on the flip side are full-on in you face punk free-for-all anthems, almost enough to cause the record to skip. The cover of the release is pretty sweet too, it comes hand screened from Crosshair in Chicago and is designed by Dan Macadam.) 5.00
MISERY INDEX / LOCK UP – split 7“ (Damage Done - US death metal meets UK death grind on this new split 7" from Misery Index and Lock Up. Misery Index unleash their newly recorded track "Siberian;" a brooding, mid-paced monolith that contrasts nicely with Lock Up's face-ripping attack featured on two new tracks from the reactivated supergroup ("The Embodiment of Paradox and Chaos," and "Thus the Beast Decapitated").) 5.00
PALAHNIUK – ep 7“ (Damage Done – Heartbreaking emopunk from Praha.) 5.00
POINT BLANK RANGE – now i understand 7“ (Damage Done – Mordern Hardcore from Bratislava) 5.00
SPERMA – züri punx / bombs 7“ (Static Age - 1979 appeared on Urs Steiger label Another Swiss Label the punk anthem "Züri Punx" ("Zyt from flower power ish verbii / Woodstock ish shit GSII ...") by the group Sperma. This song expressed with his musical directness and their slogans like lyrics ("They träumed vo Punk and Anarchy") very nicely the fierce determination of the first round. The following year, the song reappeared again with a new B- side (Sinnlos insteed of Bombs). Today, 35 years later Static Age Musik from Berlin did release for the first time all 3 songs on a single in an edition of 500 copies with the two original covers and some liner notes.) 6.50
TYLER DANIEL BEANS – everything you do scares me 7“ (Tor Johnson - With his critically acclaimed 2012 debut LP, Longing, behind him, Tyler Daniel Bean returns with Everything You Do Scares Me—a 2 song 7" that examines the deep-seated effects of loss and our innate ability to accept life’s ebb and flow in and out of normalcy. Housed in a beautiful hand-screened chip-board jacket, this record is a perfect modern-day addition to all those 90s emo records that have worn thin on your turntable from years and feelings long passed. Lyrically and musically, these songs portray the fleeting sadness and the necessary sorrow that we must embrace before looking to the inevitable future. These songs are surely sad, but they are sad in a profound and thoughtful way.) 5.00
VIDEO - New Immortals b/w Nothing Lasts Forever 7" (thrid man - Crawling from the musical wasteland that is Texas, their intentions are simple: they want to own the world. While the band features members of Bad Sports, Wiccans, Radioactivity, and the Wax Museums (just to name a few), VIDEO stands on its own as one of the most powerful and visceral bands active today. Combining equal parts snotty punk, hard rock, and melodic dissonance, VIDEO are pioneers of their own subgenre, Hate Wave. Going well beyond the confines of paint by numbers punk, and generic, flaccid garage rock, VIDEO forges a new cult like movement. So pay attention, consumers, and don't miss out on the best thing going today.) 10.00

BIRDS IN ROW / WAITC – split 10“ (Throatruiner - "The most "local" split you can get - written, recorded, designed, pressed and released in Laval, France. A perfect pairing between two loud and abrasive three-pieces, both tracked and mixed at La Senelle by Amaury Sauvé. At this point BIRDS IN ROW should need no introduction, spreading their trademark tense and heartfelt hardcore/punk to every single corner of the globe with a P.A. system all along these last six years. These three new anthems make no exception, encapsulating all their savoir-faire whether it comes to raging heaviness or to more powerfully melancholic tracks. This is the band's first installment in a string of splits that will see the light in the future. Following a bunch of EPs, this split marks WAITC's brutal first steps on vinyl. Founded in 2012 (and formerly known as We Are In The Country) this young band has refined its sound over the years, delivering what could be described as an angst-ridden, noise-infused reinterpretation of Ebullition-era screamo. With their distinctive nervous riffing and triple vocal assault perfectly served by an harsh, in-the-red production, these three tracks are directly establishing the band as a force to be reckoned with.") 11.00

ABIGAIL – intercourse and lust LP (Nuclear War Now - Japan’s Abigail has been a flagship band in the NWN! camp since the beginning of the label’s existence. In the more than 20 years of Abigail’s existence the bands has undergone a noticeable stylistic evolution from sinister Yakuza Black Metal to the band’s later period of sexualcoholic Street Metal Thrash. Up until the mid-1990s, Abigail was known exclusively for its Black Metal sound and ranked alongside Sabbat and Sigh among Japan’s most evil exports. The handful of demos Abigail released between 1992 and 1996 saw Abigail ushering in its malefic strain of Black Metal and securing for the band a prominent position among the elite bands within the genre’s Second Wave emanation. Abigail’s debut album, released by Modern Invasion in 1996, highlights the manner in which Abigail infused its traditionalist Black/Thrash approach with eccentric embellishments. The album, “Intercourse and Lust,” stands as a monument to the Far East Black Metal sound. When NWN! was still in its infancy, YK Insulter reached out to Abigail to seek approval to commit this legendary album to vinyl. Abigail agreed and, in 2002, NWN! released the LP, which became one of the first and most highly regarded releases on the label..) 17.00

BEACH HOUSE - your lucky star LP (bella union - Thank Your Lucky Stars is the 6th album from Beach House (and 2nd new full length of 2015)! The band have the following to say about it: “Thank Your Lucky Stars is our sixth full length record. It was written after Depression Cherryfrom July 2014 - November 2014 and recorded during the same session as Depression Cherry. The songs came together very quickly and were driven by the lyrics and the narrative. In this way, the record feels very new for us, and a great departure from our last few records. Thematically, this record often feels political. It’s hard to put it into words, but something about the record made us want to release it without the normal “campaign.” We wanted it to simply enter the world and exist. Thank you very much, Beach House”) 25.00
BIG | BRAVE – au de la LP (Southern Lord - Montreal, Quebec, Canada, three-piece BIG|BRAVE plays sincere, long-form out-rock that ventures in to different directions — at times mournful and unsettling — their music plays out in to moon-bleached grunge where serene vocals crumble over scraping guitars bled of melody. Sometimes it’s the sound you don’t make. Big|Brave chooses their silences carefully, oscillating between sparse, gentle arrangements and deep swells of noise. They are patient, their crescendos tidal and graceful. Heavy drums come up against haunting vocal melodies. Moody guitar tones swirl. Slowly they recede into something more atmospheric, a quiet that hangs thick like smoke. Something important is offered in the spaces between sounds. Listen for it, feel. It waits.) 18.00
BLACK BREATH – slaves beyond death DLP (Southern Lord - “Slaves Beyond Death” is the 3rd full-length from the new kings of Seattle Death Metal: Black (FUCKING) Breath. Like its predecessors, this album was recorded by Kurt Ballou (High on Fire, Nails, Baptists, Converge) at his infamous God City studio in Salem, MA. The heathens of the Breath have taken a decidedly more sick and evil sonic direction with their latest burnt offering. They have effectively and efficiently ripped off their old skin and left us with a more grotesque, rotting corpse of PURE filthy Death Metal. Bid farewell to any good time hardcore, punk or retro thrash vibes. Its all putrid stench and bile vomited up by THEE best current DM band that currently rages. This music ain’t pretty but neither are you. Suit up, strap it on and get ready to get pummeled!) 24.00
BUILT TO SPILL - there's nothing wrong with love LP (up - Up Records (via Sub Pop) will reissue Built To Spill’s much loved classic There’s Nothing Wrong with Love, the second full-length album released by the legendary indie rock band. It was originally released September 13, 1994 on the Up Records label with the stellar line-up of Doug Martsch, bassist Brett Nelson, and drummer Andy Capps, with Phil Ek producing. The album features enduring singles “In the Morning,” “Car,” and “Distopian Dream Girl.”) 18.00
CITIZENS ARREST – colossus DLP (Nuclear War Now - Citizens Arrest were a hardcore punk band that formed in the Lower East Side of Manhattan and existed from 1988-1990. They played a bunch of shows at legendary punk venues like CBGBs and ABC No Rio. Considered to be a seminal New York hardcore band by many, their short-lived reign exists within a demo, a 7_ EP, some comp tracks, and a full-length album. Heavily influenced by S.O.A., Negative FX, and Siege, this record amalgamates gruff vocals with extremely raw, fast hardcore.
This discography release contains pretty much everything they recorded including their 1989 demo, 7_, compilation tracks, album, unreleased Red C cover with Daryl on vocals, and a live recording with Daryl on vocals. The 8_ live flexi was left out due to its bad sound quality. All copies come housed in quality gatefold jacket and includes a double sided A2 poster and zine styled booklet with old photos and additional information about each release.) 21.00
DAN FRIEL – life LP (Thrill Jockey - Dan Friel creates intense, colorful and intricate instrumentals that, for all their complexity, are melodic pop songs. Equally at home in the DIY scene and the contemporary art world, Friel has been at the forefront of a movement of musicians who create dance music with a clear affinity for the extremes of noise and metal, eschewing the traditional dance clubs and adhering to the ethics of the underground. On his sophomore Thrill Jockey album Life, Friel uses his surprisingly small arsenal of gear to distort and maneuver his beloved Yamaha Portasound into an expansive sound that is incredibly varied in tone and texture. This toy keyboard, his first instrument, is manipulated beyond recognition to create songs that are frenzied and epic. Life also has moments that are incredibly sweet, idyllic, and fragile - sentiments that make perfect sense coming from a new father whose instrument of choice is his childhood keyboard. Life was written and recorded by Friel at his home studios in Brooklyn and was mixed by Jonathan Schenke (Parquet Courts, Liturgy). “Lullaby (for Wolf)” revolves around a dreamy melody Friel sang to his newborn son, and the inspiration for “Sleep Deprivation” should be well known to any new parent. “Lungs” and “Bender” share crushing bass lines that far exceed the range of most computer speakers, their punishing heaviness akin to a demolition scene from Godzilla or a bad turn in a video game. The deliciously addictive melody shared by “Life (Pt. 1)” and “Life (Pt. 2),” is carried by a noisy and churning beat that eventually swallows it entirely early in Life “(Pt. 2).” With his cover of Joanna Gruesome’s “Jamie (Luvver),” Friel betrays his punk roots in the beloved band Parts and Labor. All throughout Life, Friel exploits his intentionally simple set-up to ever surprising effect, using simple electronics to mirror the sounds of guitars, drums, and harmonicas. It is an irresistible and genre-bending collection of underground anthems.) 19.00
DAVE HEUMANN – here in the deep LP (Thrill Jockey - Dave Heumann, leader of the beloved Arbouretum, branches out with his debut solo record, Here in the Deep. While Arbouretum was on a year-long hiatus, Heumann continued writing, finding himself with a collection of material that displayed a different style of songwriting than in his past efforts. The recording of these songs gave Heumann a chance to play with a talented group of friends, including Walker Teret of Lower Dens, drummer/percussionist Mike Kuhl,Wye Oak’s Jenn Wasner, and accomplished pianist Hans Chew, among others. The songs on Here in the Deep were arranged with a mind to explore textures outside of what Arbouretum typically embodies. Significantly, Here in the Deep was mixed by John Parish (PJ Harvey, Tracy Chapman, Giant Sand) whose sense for the deep, warm spaces the songs occupy allowed him to give the album a distinct clarity not found on any Arbouretum album. Here in the Deep is a lush showcase of the considerable lyrical, vocal and guitar talents ofDave Heumann and, for the listener, a rich escape. Highly informed by folk and pop traditions, the album’s ten tracks are so well crafted that they seem instantly familiar. Lyrically, the songs touch on themes at once cosmic and universal: the connection of the human spirit to its environment, and different routes to navigate within..) 22.00
DEAD TO A DYING WORLD – litany DLP (Alerta Antiscista - Dead To A Dying World's imminent sophomore "Litany" 2xLP, due out October 16, is now available for pre-order. Litany is an ambitious and defining opus with each of its six triumphant musical movements, demanding hope and despair in its deliberate parade of the sours of humanity. DOMINI INFERI / WARHATE – split LP (Nuclear War Now - Warhate plays heathen war metal the way it was meant to be. Short bursts of angst and hatred to celebrate the wolf in man. Their side of the LP was originally released as a split 7_ with Nasum back in 1998. Domini Inferi is pre-Conqueror bestial black death metal project from R. Forster. FOUNTAINSUN (DANIEL HIGGS & FUMIE ISHII) - music today LP (gnomelife - Fountainsun is the new work of Daniel Higgs and Fumie Ishii. Their debut LP, Music Today, is a bright and expressive blend of percussion, strings, flutes, voices, and a tumult of poetry rumbling out from the very center of The Big Bang, traversing eons of song. Music Today transmits impressions of lush and varied regions, distant and present eras. One could picture our troubadours 3,000 years in the past with flute and drum in hand wandering across grassy hills, playing merry tunes that make the bamboo sway in time. Or they may be seated in the temple chamber of an interstellar ship, composing music to the entropic spin of distant galaxies. Just as the sounds of many times and places mingle joyfully here, so too the masculine and feminine energies dance and play in a prismatic yin yang. Volatile banjo pluckings send a shower of sparks over full-bodied organic rhythms. Bombastic cymbal waves crash in the tranquil pools of many layered nylon-string guitars. Caverns of authoritative voices make way for one singer softly cooing. What is graceful and intuitive harmonizes with what is meticulous and definitive. The overarching balances the intimate. The tender compliments the surreal. Two beautiful songs on this album ("Old Pine Tree" and "Only One") were written entirely by Fumie... the rest of the lyrics were culled from a single epic poem by Daniel. This literary thru-line lends the album a hypnotic continuity, allowing for maximum stylistic musical explorations that never dim the intense focus and cohesion of the work. Recorded over the course of several weeks on one-inch tape in a glass house in Big Sur, California. Eleven songs and recitations appear here sung and chanted at times by Daniel and Fumie together, and in some instances solo... but they never seem to sing or play alone. Instead we sing with them, knowing the songs already, as we know all things most ancient and forever new.) 19.00
GOATLORD - Reflections of the Solstice LP (Nuclear War Now - Die Hard Version with patch, poster and sticker. The transition in style that Goatlord underwent between the releases of “Demo '87” and the “Sodomize the Goat” demo in 1988 began to expose some differences in the individual members' visions for the band's future direction. Although guitarist Joe Frankulin has been quoted as stating that the deliberate attempt to slow the pace of certain sections of the songs quite dramatically had gone a bit too far, vocalist Ace Still instead embraced this change wholeheartedly, which eventually led to him parting ways with Goatlord prior to the band's signing with Turbo Music for the recording of their first album, “Reflections of the Solstice,” in 1991. In the wake of Ace's departure, Frankulin and company enlisted the vocal services of Mitch Harris, who would soon become better known for his involvement in Napalm Death. Curiously, although it is commonly recognized that Harris indeed recorded lead vocal tracks for the entire album, it is instead the voice of Ace Still that appears on the released recording. Given the band's known indulgence in hallucinogenics, it is as fitting as it is mysterious that Ace Still somehow re-emerged from the fog to record the lead vocal tracks on “Reflections...,” and it is perhaps equally interesting to note that Harris' vocals only surface as a backing track on “Sacrifice.” These differences in musical visions aside, “Reflections of the Solstice” followed much in the same vein as the “Sodomize the Goat” demo.) 23.00
GOATLORD – the last sodomy of mary LP (Nuclear War Now - After Goatlord agreed with JL America to release a second version of their 1991 debut album, “Reflections of the Solstice” (but this time simply renamed “Goatlord”), the band recruited vocalist Chris Gans to permanently replace Ace Still, who had left prior to the recording of the album but resurfaced briefly to record vocal tracks for it. Thus, with a new member and a U.S.-based label that agreed to finance such a venture, Goatlord set out with new labelmates Excruciating Pain to tour the west coast of the United States. Though they had previously been limited to playing makeshift local gigs in the desert, using gasoline-powered generators for electricity, this tour undoubtedly began to earn them some well-deserved recognition in five different states, which culminated in a set in front of an audience of a thousand at the Death Metal Fest in Hollywood. This increased exposure, however, turned out not to be the necessary element that would solidify the new lineup and encourage them to record a second album. Instead, the band returned from this tour with a lack of motivation to forge ahead, and the band dissolved shortly thereafter in 1992. Prior to their disbandment following the fateful west coast tour, Goatlord had begun writing and rehearsing new material that was intended to serve as the foundation for a follow-up to their debut album. Seven of these tracks were recorded at different stages of their development and serve to document the final chapter of the band's history. These recordings clearly demonstrate the band's intention to return more to the sound that was present on their first recording, “Demo '87.” 17.00
GOATLORD – demo '87 / rehearsal '88 DLP (Nuclear War Now - In 1985, Goatlord emerged from beneath the desolate sands of the Mojave desert and released their first demo two years later, following the replacement of their original bassist. Though the band would ultimately become best known for their first full-length album, “Reflections of the Solstice,” it was on this first recording, known succinctly as “Demo '87,” that they established the prototype for the primeval sound that would eventually come to characterize them as one of the most unique bands to ever emerge, not only from the depraved setting of Las Vegas, but also from the U.S. metal underground as a whole. The tracks on Demo '87, which most obviously reflect the band's primary influences from the revered likes of entities such as Hellhammer and Sodom, were clearly a necessary stepping stone in the descent towards the black doom death rituals that would later become further explored on subsequent recordings. In comparison to the later versions of the same four songs, the Demo '87 tracks are relatively shorter, more concise, and noticeably faster, thus serving as a testament to a band that was still working to define its own sound. In the months that followed the original release of Demo '87, the band revisited this same material and accentuated its more doom-laden aspects, which effectively lengthened the songs and augmented the thrashier original versions with elements derived from other musical influences such as Pentagram and St. Vitus. In addition to the reworked tracks from Demo '87, the band also wrote and rehearsed a significant number of new songs, which were also to follow in the same new vein. With the greatest of personal pleasure and pride, Nuclear War Now! announces its re-issue of the complete, original Demo '87 in conjunction with a first-time release of a 1988 rehearsal recording that exemplifies Goatlord's majestic devolution21.00
GOATLORD – sodomize the goat DLP (Nuclear War Now - Following the release of their first demo, aptly titled “Demo ’87,” Goatlord made a conscious effort to modify their musical approach in such a way that would eventually lead to their present-day status as visionaries in the subgenre of black doom metal. By the time they had recorded the “Sodomize the Goat” demo in 1988, the original versions of the songs from the first demo had been altered to a state that convincingly reflected a sort of manic, LSD-induced psychosis. Although the faster, death/thrashier sections of songs like “Possessed Soldiers of War” were still present, the slower, reality-distorting segments of the same songs had been accentuated to a point where the reworked versions of the Demo ’87 tracks had taken on a life of their own. Moreover, the hideous emergence of newer tracks, such as “Twilight Rem” and “Distorted Birth,” upped the ante of this new crossbreed of doomed black/death by pushing song-length boundaries past the nine-minute mark.. NWN! has striven to present this work in the most befitting manner possible. As such, the original unholy artwork has appropriately been resurrected to adorn the cover of the gatefold for this double-LP release, which is accompanied by an A2 poster, and the austerity of the remaining layout pays homage to the day when the band first set out to unleash this masterpiece. Forever Black Dwell in Hell.) 21.00

THE GREAT TYRANT - The Trouble With Being Born LP (relape - The Great Tyrant were a three-piece experimental rock band from Denton, TX active in the late '10s who released one full length album and a few singles to cult acclaim. On the eve of the completion of their second full length, 'The Trouble With Being Born', bassist Tommy Wayne Atkins unexpectedly passed away. The remaining two members of The Great Tyrant continued on as Pinkish Black, but 'The Trouble With Being Born' lay unreleased until now. Finally available as a limited edition LP and CD 'The Trouble With Being Born' is a killer insight into the genesis of Pinkish Black.) 19.00

ILL OMEN - Enthroning the Bonds of Abhorrence DLP (Nuclear War Now - Complete DIE HARD COPY with all the extras (patch, sticker and insert inside gatefold with faux-leather outer case). Ill Omen is the solo project of the reclusive and mysterious Australian multi-instrumentalist and songwriter known as IV (also recognized for his work in bands such as Nazxul and Temple Nightside as well as a number of other solitary musical endeavors). In recent years, IV has produced a series of progressively developed demo recordings, EPs, and one prior full-length under the name Ill Omen, gradually chiseling and molding the sound of Ill Omen until it has assumed its present stature. With this second album, “Enthroning the Bonds of Abhorrence,” IV has fully defined his supreme approach to the music of Ill Omen. The music here is predominantly mid-paced and expansive and laced with passages both heavily melancholic and misanthropic. Through the 11 tracks on this album, IV leads the listener into sprawling and cavernous depths. Ill Omen’s sound, built upon rich layered walls of shimmering guitars, is lucid and poignant, never seeming contrived or overly dramatic. Anchored by the unassuming, but formidably executed percussion and bass and adorned with the haunting rasp of IV’s vocals, the songs sadly march toward the ruinous splendor of oblivion. It is worth noting that BR of Grave Upheaval completed the mastering of this album and the rich textural depths achieved in this recording are due, in part, to the atmospheric haze of the production. The visionary art of Alex Brown was selected to impart the visual aesthetic accompaniment to this haunting masterpiece, and the result is magnificent.) 28.00
HOODED MENACE - Darkness Drips Forth LP (relapse - Finland’s HOODED MENACE return with Darkness Drips Forth, their most gruesome work to date. Recorded and mixed by Chris Fielding (Electric Wizard, Primordial, etc) the band employ a new approach on their latest effort, expanding their writing across four mammothly dense tracks that nearly all exceed ten minutes a piece. Cavernous vocals preside over Lasse Pyykko's rocky riffs, while the band’s unshakable rhythmic core provides a grim backbone for the record. The hint of melody HOODED MENACE sought back in their earliest days has fully blossomed into an essential element of the band’s music; Darkness Drips Forth is as melodic as it is devastating and as emotionally disquieting as it is thematically stirring. Funereal, deliberate, and unhurried, Darkness Drips Forth is sure to be an essential acquisition for fans of crushing doom and old-school death metal alike. Hooded Menace deliver a gruesomely glorious treat just in time for Halloween!) 19.00
JOANNA NEWSOM – divers DLP (Drag City - The dreamer dreams again with her 4th album of otherworldly microcosms, 'Divers', recorded by Steve Albini and featuring contributions by Nico Muhly and The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, arriving five years since her last opus for Drag City. Still possessed by a voice that teeters between sublime and ridiculous (I honestly laughed out loud at the first song), Joanna remains a precious spirit within the indie folk paradigm, blessed with an air of stately patience and poised, immaculate production which belies her phantasmagoric storytelling and deeply whimsical appeal. The following promo paragraph should give a good gauge of the lofty ideas and intent behind the LP: "Dive, listener, knowing that your next hour will be filled with diversions aplenty: a wheeling circuit of sci-fi sea-shanties and cavalier ballads narrated from parts unknown; a family of polysemic song-sets; a paranomasaic Liederkreis of harmonic sympathies and knotted hierarchies; a fanfare of brazen puns and martial lullabies, blazing in sorrow and horseplay and love, in turns symphonic and spare, joined by Mellotrons and Marxophones and Moogs, clavichords and celestas and, of course, the harp, thrumming its threnodies of circadian invasions and avian irruptions and strange loops of Shepardtoned resonant-frequencies." To put it simply, 'Divers' equates to 100% of your RDA for uniquorn meat and magick potatoes.) 30.00
JUST FOR BEING – there is a lie that never goes out LP (Damage Done - Just For Being is a Czech pop-punk/punk rock band that was formed in 2009. We're inspired by many bands across all scenes (The Bouncing Souls, Strike Anywhere, Kings Of Leon, Man Overboard,...), but we define our music as the attempt that combines HC with melodic punk rock/pop-punk...) 14.00
LATE BLOOMER – things change LP (Tor Johnson - Following the release of the 2013 S/T debut LP and hot off the heels of their split 7" w/ Old Flings released by Kiss of Death Records, Charlotte's Late Bloomer occupies a wholly unique spot on the time / music continuum: one that effortlessly stretches across several epochs and genres while anchoring itself in the ethos of the underground DIY community. The band's excellent sophomore full-length, Things Change, is an ambitious, masterfully crafted effort that molds punk, hardcore, garage, shoegaze and grunge into 38 fluid minutes of energetic and thoughtful guitar-based indie rock. The trio's grungy riffs, atmospheric feedback and slightly skewed compositions bring to mind stalwarts such as Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth and Husker Du. But Late Bloomer's penchant for post-hardcore dynamics, combined with a knack for writing understatedly catchy hooks and ear-worm melodies, give the album a decidedly modern redux on '90s indie rock. When a pop-tinged chorus peeks through the beautiful muck during barnstormers that are thick with reverb and noisy interplay, it echoes peers like California X, Ovlov or perhaps a more melancholy Pity Sex. Still, there are moments when Late Bloomer slow-burns confidently into shoegaze territory, proving that it's just as comfortable exploring quieter, self-reflective passages as it is wrapping the disjointed squall of a sinewy guitar line around the propulsive and relentless rhythm section. There's no doubt that a definitive statement has been made with Things Change; the record is one that borrows freely from the North Carolina band's indie and punk heroes, but twists and shapes those influences into an experience that is singularly Late Bloomer's own. This record is designed for people with love of the classic Sub-Pop/Merge/SST sound, but demand something new & fresh. The best of both worlds that will keep this record sitting on your turntable days at a time.) 12.00
LEE GAMBLE - B23 Steelhouse / Motor System (Extension) LP (PAN - Lee Gamble knocks out two ‘floor-ruling edits and exclusives on a surprise PAN white label drop. Up top: his bucking, aerobic edit of ‘Steelhouse Chaconne’, reworked in honour of Brumland as ‘B23 Steelhouse’ with lush drops, screwed vox and slamming, modulated kicks at 130mph-thru-eccie fog momentum - at once pelting but floating. Down below: ‘Motor System’ is extracted from the ‘Koch’ album and extended for your ‘floor’s satisfaction with tricksy, on-the-fly drum machine fills and filter f**kery._Both sound much louder and dynamic than the album cuts - primed for the DJs, dancers and big soundsystems.) 15.00
MARRÓN - marron LP (Hailing from the center and the sprawl of Southern California, MARRÓN takes its chief inspiration from the area’s highly racialized landscape of inequity, tragedy, and beauty. But while SoCal is the home, DC hardcore rings throughout the chords, and these veteran members of bands such as ESPERANZA, MUGRE, and DESCARADOS bring a new kind of fire to their emotive sound. Owing as much influence to bands like SWIZ as to the political writings of ALBERT MEMMI, MARRÓN brings a new wave of sound and race-critical perspectives to punk and hardcore that will make you want to dance and decolonize! MASACRE – metal medallo attack LP (Nuclear War Now - For the past 25 years, Masacre have been among the most championed bands in the Medellin, Colombia Death Metal underground. After releasing several demos in the late 1980’s the band focused its sound into the cataclysmic masterpiece known as “Ola De Violencia.” This EP, recorded and released by the band in 1991 has for decades stood as a powerful testament to the potential for the oppressive darkness and massive power inherent in Death Metal. The three tracks on this EP reveal Masacre’s penchant for devastating and brooding riffs infused with melancholic passages that accentuate the morose atmosphere the band captures. Without warning, however, Masacre frequently erupt into violent blasts of evil, unleashing torrents of hate and aggression heralding the arrival of the more sinister Black Metal sound that was then beginning to cast its shadow across the metal undergroundOne would not be faulted for suggesting the possibility that no other band so masterfully achieved this goal in that era of Death Metal.) 13.00
MORBOSIDAD – tortura LP (Nuclear War Now - Since the band began in the early 1990s, Morbosidad has remained one of the most consistent bands in the Bestial Black/Death scene. As one of the very few bands that has maintained the extremity in their sound throughout the decades, Morbosidad has assumed a deservedly prominent status within the ranks of the underground. Led by vocalist Tomas Stench, whose depraved vision guides the band and whose distinctive vocal style is the signature of all Morbosidad releases, Morbosidad has evolved through the years without sacrificing their integrity. After relocating to Texas several years ago, Tomas Stench began working a new set of musicians. The current incarnation of the band is comprised of veteran musicians whose skill and precision serves to enhance the impact of the band’s style. While still retaining the bestial sound for which the band has long been recognized, the new material featured on this MLP, “Tortura,” is decidedly more Death Metal oriented and, as such, more focused and powerful. The instruments all merge in lock-step fashion while Stench delivers his lyrics, as always written predominantly in Spanish, in his typically staccato manner, each word resonating with guttural evil. The effect is one of relentless attack – a frenzy of insane violence as can only be summoned by Morbosidad. One of the most noteworthy aspects of this EP is the guest appearance of the inimitable Chris Reifert on the closing track of the record. Reifert has long supported Morbosidad and this appearance marks the first time he and Stench have had the opportunity to collaborate.) 12.00
MORBOSIDAD – s/t LP (Nuclear War Now - One of the first records NWN! released was Morbosidad's magnificent blasphemic self-titled opus and the relationship between NWN! and Morbosidad has endured for more than a decade. Although Morbosidad formed in 1993, the band only released two demos before the death of drummer Yegros forced the band into a torpor that lasted for several years until Tomas Stench reassembled a line-up to record what would become the band’s debut album. Recorded in 1998 and originally released in 2000 on Quadrivium, it was only available on CD and featured garish, unsuitable cover artwork. Within a year of beginning NWN! Productions, YK Insulter approached the band about re-issuing the album on vinyl with new artwork. Finding an old flyer for a show at which Morbosidad played, YK Insulter, using a photocopy machine and white-out, managed to isolate a small image along the border of the flyer and blow it up into what would become the iconic cover of Morbosidad’s self-titled release. The image became representative of both the band’s and label’s aesthetics. Morbosidad’s first album represented a sonic departure in some ways from the demo material released many years prior. The lineup for the LP was among the most stable in the band’s history included guitarist Chip N’ Death whose idiosyncratic riffs and distinct Death Metal style were integral to the band’s formula at that time.. For that reason, NWN! proudly announces the reissue of this classic LP that remains one of the finest moments in the history of underground metal.) 17.00
PINKISH BLACK - Bottom Of The Morning LP (relapse - Bottom of the Morning is Texas duo PINKISH BLACK's third album and Relapse debut. From the gothic, horror-movie-esque organ intro of opener “Brown Rainbow” to the wistful, fuzzed-out conclusion of final track “The Master Is Away,” Bottom of the Morning is simultaneously dark and catchy, dissonant and melodic, smothering audiences with heavy layers of distorted, repressive gloom that still end up as earworms despite their pessimism. It’s like if Mike Patton’s subconscious got into a knife fight with Goblin. Recorded at Echo Lab Studios in Argyle, TX by Matthew Barnhart and mastered by James Plotkin (Khanate, Zombi), Bottom of the Morning stands to see PINKISH BLACK affirm themselves as one of the most interesting and far-thinking duos currently active in the heavy music scene.) 19.00
RON MORELLI – a gathering together LP (Hospital Productions - A Gathering Together is Ron Morelli’s second full-length for Hospital Productions: a ‘techno’ cacophony brought to its granular detail and reduced to its most elemental tonal depths. A cohesive fusion of surreal and feverish deja vu loops, brittle noise, fucked rhythms, scrap metal percussions, pro-one metal synths, and an injection of near-buried, Drano vocal samples, it’s a fearsome celebration of brokenness, of amplified surroundings. Stereo-shifting drones and driving rhythms that tell the stories of those now gone, more a soundtrack for a wake than 4/4 crafted for the dancefloor. There’s a naked anxiety at work that doesn’t turn away from loss, but runs with an excited melancholy that looks to a future that won’t exist. The boldness of the gestures are not to be confused with exuberance. With this effort Morelli has shown remarkable restraint and patience most notably highlighted on title track ‘A Gathering Together.’ An intense cut born from rapid-paced dead-end urban environments that force people together. It’s a calling to do more, include more, and celebrate the many forms within those inconspicuous places. Upon numerous listens, it’s clear the sound design is a reflection of heavy compositional themes that suggest a greater whole. This is hard, dirty techno--humid, reduced, bare bones, yet dense and dissolved to its electronic soil. Heavy without being oppressive, it is the culmination of many elements pulled from all spheres of modern electronics, eaten, digested, and spit back out. Produced at the end of 2014, with final mixdown and additional production in spring 2015 by Krikor Kouchian and Ron Morelli in Paris, Hospital Productions is proud to offer A Gathering Together.) 25.00
SACRIFICIO – s/t LP (Nuclear War Now - Sacrificio’s debut mLP is among the most anticipated debuts in recent memory by an otherwise obscure project – little is officially known about Sacrificio except that they hail from Spain. Released earlier this year as a limited promo cassette, Sacrificio’s self-titled debut recording has garnered accolades from nearly all who have embraced its dark emanations. While many bands strive to achieve a style and sound that harkens back to the earliest and evilest progenitors of the Black Metal genre, no band has do so with such a degree of authenticity as Sacraficio. Of particular noteworthiness is the production on this recording. The sound, primitive and unaffected, perfectly captures the band’s atavistic drive to channel some of the legendary bands that ushered in the First Wave of Black Metal. Aftershocks of the earliest recordings of Bathory, Sodom, and Hellhammer can be felt pulsing through the songs on this recording..) 12.00
SEA OF STORMS – dead weight LP (Tor Johnson - These songs won’t ever be on the radio, but they could’ve been. Growing up in the ‘90s, you wouldn’t have heard any of the songs from Sea of Storms’s debut LP, Dead Weight, on the radio because they hadn’t been written yet. However, if the Richmond, VA power trio had released them roughly 20 years ago, you would’ve had a chance. Growing up in a post-Nevermind era throughout different Virginian cities, the members of Sea of Storms were gripping 7”s from Richmond bands when they could and ripping off a variety of sub-genres that blended together at the time in their high school bands. When the 3/5 of the post-hardcore outfit Mouthbreather formed Sea of Storms in 2012, they brought together a varied archive of influences from Jimmy Eat World to 400 Years to Coheed and Cambria. However, Dead Weight sounds nothing like these bands. What Dead Weight (to be released on Tor Johnson and Self Aware Records) does sounds like is a rock record from a time when Danzig and Smashing Pumpkins were considered fresh, filtered through the distilled punk essence of late-1990s angsty indie rockers such as The Get Up Kids and Blank..) 12.00
STARGAZER – a merging to the boundless LP (Nuclear War Now - Die Hard Version with back patch, sticker and poster. Although the members of StarGazer are among the most active musicians in the Australian underground metal scene, they only infrequently release music under the StarGazer banner. Because of the band’s meticulous approach to every aspect of the music, when they do finally put out new material, there is little doubt as to the degree of quality one can expect. For these reasons, the announcement earlier this year that a new StarGazer album was on the horizon has generated a massive amount of anticipation, and with the release of “A Merging to the Boundless,” expectations will not only be met, but exceeded. Despite approaching the 20-year mark of StarGazer’s existence, “A Merging to the Boundless” is only the band’s third full-length album. Each of the band’s releases demonstrates continual growth and evolution, while maintaining the core traits that characterize all of StarGazer’s music. With this album, as with the previous one, “A Great Work of Ages,” the band continues to shed old skins, revealing new, variegated forms and patterns beneath. In reference to StarGazer one often hears terms like “Progressive Death Metal.” While the band is undeniably technical and almost certainly influenced by myriad styles of music that are subtly incorporated into the tapestry of their sound, the term “progressive” often carries with it a somewhat negative connotation, suggesting either the sterile, academic approach of Progressive Rock or a naïve attempt to be “experimental.” StarGazer deftly avoid both of these pitfalls.) 23.00
STEVE MOORE – cub LP (Relapse - Original soundtrack to the major motion picture 'Cub' scored by Steve Moore (Zombi). 'Cub' is a brutal horror film from Belgium that tells the tale of a young cub-scout bullied by his troop-mates. When the kids take a scout camping trip to the woods, things get bloody quickly when a deranged poacher sets his sites on the young kids. Steve Moore's haunting synth based score is the perfect soundscape for this acclaimed horror film. Whether you're familiar with the movie Cub or not, Steve Moore's score sits perfectly with your Zombi discography.) 24.00
TERZIJ DE HORDE - self LP (burning world - The album focuses on the problem of self. Six tracks explore different ways to live, or fail to live, with self and world. They embody the struggles these paths and strategies create: blindness, suffering, a desire for release, the destruction of self and others as well as the turning towards -or away from- life. Self as prison, self as a source of power, self as vessel for manipulation by outside forces, self as shield and as inner world, self as medium for Dionysian rapture, self as something to be overcome. In the six songs that constitute ‘Self’, the rage of black metal is paired with a cathartic destruction as well as a contemplative, sometimes crawling melancholy. Instead of navel gazing or the worship of constructs, ‘Self’ is analysis forced. A cerebral celebration of liberation at all costs and a requiem for spheres rendered apart. The artwork of ‘Self’ depicts ants, consumed by Ophiocordyceps. These parasitic fungi appropriate the brains of whichever host they infect, to manipulate and effectively destroy its self-regulating features. Through this annexation, the ants become empty shells of what they once were, governed by a destruction from within, imposed and irreconcilable.) 18.00
