BOSSK - Pick Up Artist b/w Albatross 7" (detahwish - Bossk are an atmospheric post-everything band from Ashford, Kent, England. The band released four promising recordings ("1", "2", the "3" DVD, and a split EP w/ Rinoa) on their own Eyes Of Sound label before taking temporary hiatus in 2008. After four years of dormancy, Bossk awoke from their slumber collectively inspired to create in 2012. The band then performed at UK's Damnation Festival In the Fall of 2012, and entered the studio to record the "Pick Up Artist". A seven minute textural epic that is crushingly heavy and uniquely melodic. Crashing forward in two unique movements, "Pick Up Artist" has a hypnotic ebb and flow that carries Bossk passed obvious influences (Isis, Neurosis, etc.) as they expand into new uncharted territory.) 6.00

CAUGHT IN A CROWD - The Fight 7" (rwact - Pulling strong influence from the heavier side of youth crew and early New Age Records catalog, turn of the millennium bands like Carry On and Count Me Out, and proudly representing the edge and intensity of Massachusetts hardcore past and present, Caught In A Crowd is a force of nature that demands attention and respect. With the world still recovering from their first major tour and one of the most talked-about sets at This Is Hardcore 2013, Caught In A Crowd and React! Records are proud to present "The Fight." 7" includes digital downloa 5.00

DELOS / YUSUKE - split 7" (react with - Delos play a dark, ambient, and tense style of post hardcore and screamo.  Musically, Delos can be compaired to bands such as The Good Life, Todos Caeran, and possibly The Saddest Landscape.  On their side of the split, Delos offers up two tracks of dark, tense, and ambient music.  The second band on the split is Yusuke.  Yusuke is a four piece band from Normal/Pekin/Sunnyland/Champaign, Il who formed in April of 2013.  Yusuke play a chaotic style of emoviolence tinged screamo that's sure to be a hit for fans of Resurrectionists, Orchid, and Ampere.  On their side of the split, Yusuke offer up three tracks of brutally chaotic music. Overall, this is a killer split and both bands offer up top notch material.( compressed maniac ) 5.00

DOWN BUT NOT OUT - Caught In The Cycle  7" (painkiller – One of Boston's true cult classics from the last decade, Down But Not Out emerged from the ether as a fully formed hardcore power house in 1999. For a minute it seemed they might take over the world with their perfectly crafted and delivered 4-song demo, and crushing live performances. It was not meant to be in the end, but even 14 years later the initial promise of the Caught in the Cycle demo is still obvious, holding up far better than the majority of their peers when you listen now. Here we present it to you, mastered for the first time and pressed to 7" vinyl.) 6.00

ELIZABETH - insomnia 7" (throatruiner - Switzerland's very own ELIZABETH return with new EP "Insomnia"; four new tracks of hardcore/crust/whatever showing their ability to write neckbreaking hymns and intended to be played at full volume. An intense barrage of manic drumming, chainsaw-tone guitars, and these trademark raspy screams that come from nowhere : on this EP the band goes one step further into heaviness without sacrificing dynamics. After the recent release of an LP documenting all their previous body of work, "Insomnia" is a brutal foretaste of all things to come for ELIZABETH.) 5.00

KICK IT !

SPIRIT ANIMAL - real 7" (sfu - SPIRITANIMAL is a relatively new hardcore band from Richmond Virginia who have been playing out up and down the East Coast for the past year. They recorded their demo REAL and it caught SFU's attention right off the bat. After a mutual friend put us in touch we are pleased to be putting out REAL vinyl in a limited pressing of 300 copies. Fans of heavy groove laced riffs and mosh parts along the lines of Trapped Under Ice and Expire and Only Living Witness will be in for a treat with this one. Features guest vocals by Justice from TUI and Austin from Break Away. Limited to 300 copies.) 5.00

BLANCMANGE - Irene & Mavis 10" (minimal wave - A 10" reissue of BLANCMANGE’s seminal debut EP Irene & Mavis. Formed in the UK by NEIL ARTHUR and STEPHEN LUSCOMBE, Blancmange recorded the six songs on Irene & Mavis in 1979 and released it as a 7" EP in 1980. Irene & Mavis, though not exactly representative of what Blancmange later went on to become, is a fascinating relic that captures the gestation period of the duo, fresh out of art school and keen to ex- periment. The D.I.Y. sound of the EP fits right in there with the early output of Soft Cell, the Human League, and Cabaret Voltaire; but what separates it from those like-minded releases of the time is that its even more distinctly English. In fact it was Daniel Miller, supporter and Mute boss himself who first recognized this when he proclaimed them "the maiden aunts of electronic music". The Irene & Mavis EP is simultaneously pioneering, provincial, and surreal in its down-to- earth playfulness and lack of artifice. It stands out as an important record, capturing the mundane with modern elec- tronics and remains as an artifact representative of the band before they went on to reach pop chart success. The Irene & Mavis EP has been newly remastered and is released as a numbered limited edition 10" EP.) 17.00

LP

ANDY PARTRIDGE & HAROLD BUDD - Through the Hill DLP (all saints - This vinyl re-press of the 1994 collaboration between Harold Budd and eccentric English pop genius Andy Partridge of XTC features atmospheric instrumentals, off-kilter melodies and beguiling song poems. Limited to 500 copies worldwide in gatefold 2xLP double vinyl plus download card. Contains two bonus tracks not included on the original vinyl.) 22.00

ANNABELLE'S GARDEN - Time’s No Measure 1987-1993 (Vol. 1) DLP (dias - Dais is very, very pleased to release (after 4 years in the works) a double LP retrospective from late ‘80s gothic folk collective, ANNABELLE’S GARDEN. Annabelle’s Garden were a radically underground goth-wave/neo-folk band founded in Hamburg, Germany by members of local acts LA LISA and BEYOND DESPAIR, most active between 1987 and 1997. They released cassettes themselves and across indie European labels, music which was eventually compiled and presented to the world in the early and mid-90s on two CD releases by none other than Patrick Leagas (of Death in June and 6Comm/Mother Destruction) on his own lauded Kenaz imprint. Though they played rarely, it was often an event—outdoors, in fields to friends—and their live performances usually made us of all 24 tracks across the soundboard, dozens of instruments (traditional and homemade: rusty cages, rain barrels, etc). Often compared to contemporaries like Death in June, Sol Invictus, or Current 93 (they toured extensively with 6Comm), they managed to create music that existed both in that realm and beyond, labeled as psychedelic, punk, new wave, and goth. You can clearly hear respect given to This Mortal Coil, The Cure, or The Wake—making them as easily filed among classic World Serpent releases as they would fit among 4AD or Factory.) 32.00

BIL VERMETTE - Katha Visions LP (permanent - A reissue of BIL VERMETTE’s phenomenal private press LP, Katha Visions, from 1984. “Fans of all things SYNTH absolutely must hear this LP. Bil is a synthesizer aficionado and it shows. The first track on the ‘dark side’ is ‘Mountain Funeral,’ an aptly titled ambient synth dirge if there ever was one. The title track ventures into territory that was likely influenced by Terry Riley and could’ve easily been an influence on Bitchin’ Bajas. It’s a repetitive, layered, and soothingly long centerpiece to the album. ‘Long Trail Down’ closes out the A-side with effects that sound like seagulls floating over the top of the layered synth chord drones and melodies. It’s an easy track to get lost in, but then again, so is this whole record. The ‘light side’ (aka Side B) begins with ‘Morning Dance’ an upbeat number featuring the first appearance of synthetic rhythms. Up to this point, Katha Visions has been completely instrumental, but ‘Someday Soon’ features the only appearance by guest vocalist DAN COOPER. Cooper’s voice is melancholic and robotic, which fits in with the rest of the track perfectly. ‘Staircase’ sounds like a long-lost John Carpenter horror flick theme while the album’s closer ‘Opposites Attract’ is the curveball track on Katha Visions. It includes the first and only appearance by BRUCE WALTERS, an old high school chum of Vermette’s. Bruce disrupts the synth-clusiveness of the record with some soaring guitar lines that have us wondering what else he was up to around this time. We could also see Moon Duo doing a pretty bitchin’ cover of this one. Edition of 300 copies.) 20.00

BRIDGET FONTAINE - Comme à La Radio LP (superior viaduct - Featuring Areski Belkacem and Art Ensemble of Chicago, Comme à la Radio is the sophomore album in Brigitte Fontaine’s prolific career. While her debut, Brigitte Fontaine Est...Folle, is a unique take on French chanson, here the Art Ensemble provides the perfect setting for Fontaine’s exploration of free-verse poetry. Often arrhythmic and spoken, her vocals command the same spontaneity and grace that her collaborators applied to their instruments. The album’s eight-minute title track sets the tone: a sparse bass line keeps time as Fontaine dances around stabs of flute and trumpet. On “Tanka II,” named for a form of concise Japanese poetry, Areski (who provides percussion throughout) plays hand-drums atop flurries of bass as Fontaine coos and whispers pensively, gradually uttering controversial phrases. “L’Été L’Été” centers around a repeated motif with individual lines of high-pitched melody on a bed of muted horns. Each track is its own world, with Fontaine’s incredible range, both in style and substance, acting as the glue between the immense talent involved. The overall effect is chilling, and it is no surprise that Comme à la Radio is often cited as Fontaine’s best known work.) 18.00

BRIDGET FONTAINE - Brigitte Fontaine Est... Folle LP (superior –

CAMEL HEADS - Anoluz LP (CAMEL HEADS come straight outta Sao Paulo, Brazil, bringing their mind-bent experimental psych sounds to these shores for the first time ever with new release Anoluz. Influenced by Dead Man and North African desert blues, these long-form kraut jams will leave your brains baking on a rock in the Global South, drenched in cosmic sweat. Like waves crashing into the shoreline, the ebb and flow of Anoluz will free your mind, bury your toes in pink sand, and orient your lawn chair towards the sunset. Fans of early Pink Floyd, Sun Araw, desert blues and krautrock rejoice: Captcha Records is pleased to dose you up with the Camel Heads’ Anoluz.) 17.00

DANNY & THE DARLEANS - same LP (neros neptune - DANNY KROHA is a founding member of the GORIES who released two albums and a handful of singles containing influential blues/punk between 1986 and 1992. From 1993-2006, Kroha co-led the DEMOLITION DOLL RODS through five long players of primitive glam/roots scorch, touring the U.S. and Europe several times both as headliners and as openers for the likes of the Cramps (on a full U.S. tour) and Iggy Pop (for several west coast shows). Now, Kroha comes full circle with his latest combo, DANNY & THE DARLEANS. They play what Kroha describes as “’garage rock’, a style of American folk music which is blues-based and is played with electric guitar, electric bass, and drums.” He goes on to say “I'm really into the idea of garage rock as folk music. It was the folk music of 60's teenagers. Anybody can do it.” What becomes evident after one listen to the band’s debut LP on Nero’s Neptune, however, is that not just anybody can do it like the Darleans do it! With the explosive rhythm section of sometime-DETROIT COBRA RICHIE WOHLFEIL on drums and COLLEEN BURKE on bass and vocals, the band storm through 12 numbers with the raw energy and toughness one would hope for from Detroit’s best rock and roll band.) 18.00

DEGRADED - generalized oppression LP (dinglebetty - Degraded is a four-piece consisting of your usual member combination of guitarist, bassist, drummer, and vocalist. These guys play in a style that mixes the stylings of grindcore with those of crust punk and hardcore into one big, pissed off package.  The band really drives home the crust punk sound with both the raspy, throaty screams similar to those of Dean Jones of Extreme Noise Terror. Vocalist Paul can dish out some solid deep growls and high, depraved shrieks here and there on the album, but I really wish he did them a bit more often than he does. Lyrics are written mostly by drummer Jérôme, and much like the many grind and crust bands to come before them, Degraded deal mostly in politically driven lyrics about oppression, greed, war, and the like. It's nothing we haven't heard before from countless other hardcore bands. While the lyrics aren't anything new or groundbreaking, they're written with a sort of directness that screams passion and honesty on the band's part.) 11.00

EXTORTION / COLD WORLD - split LP (rsrt - After 2008's "Hands Off Our Music" 7" (Shortfuse Records) with its furious, brutal delivery, Vienna's COLD WORLD are back with this first full new recording since reuniting + 4 years ago. The focus on COLD WORLD's side of the split 12" with Australia's powerhouse EXTORTION lies on their 80s-Highspeed-Hardcore-roots (the 3 core members having played in Austria's premier Hardcore Punk band EXTREM) and early Powerviolence sound which they helped initiate on the European side of the Atlantic with releases on labels such as B-Core and Sound Pollution. However the band is proudly still breaking every rule of the Punk Police, even if this means another 25 years in blastbeat obscurity away from any D-Beat-, Noise-Punk-, Post-Punk- or whatever-hype that just happens to be the retro flavor of the moment. COLD WORLD never fit in anywhere and couldn't care less to change this situation in 2012. EXTORTION with 11 new Hardcore attacks, you know what you have to expected!!!)) 10.00
FIVE TIMES OF DUST - smile with eyes DLP (minimal wave - We're happy to present Smile With The Eyes: a double LP of selections of unreleased material from the prolific outsider / underground duo FIVE TIMES OF DUST. Formed in 1980 in Bristol, the duo of MARK PHILLIPS (MAP) and RPBERT LAWRENCE came together with a shared passion for Krautrock, Industrial Electronics and the burgeoning DIY tape scene as well as being influence by the Dadaist movement and the works of Burroughs and Ballard. Unconventional and quirky, yet at times melancholic and romantic their music was a perfect escape from the urban decay of early 80s Bristol and Cardiff, the two cities they travelled between at weekends to recored. Although unashamedly electronic, the sound of Five Time Of Dust is far harder to pin down, in part perhaps due to their location. Both Phillips and Lawrence produced music that owed little to any scene happening in London, Manchester or Sheffield at the time. As a result, the majority of their output are perfectly formed electronic curiosities.  The material on Smile With The Eyes spans recordings Lawrence and Phillips made between 1982-1986. As a follow up to The Dadacomputer, their debut cassette release as a duo which we reissued earlier this year, Smile With The Eyes remains lo-fi but is musically more complex. The recordings are catchy, curious and emotionally rich. Whereas The Dadacomputer could be compared with the early output of Robert Rental, Smile With The Eyes is a collection of works that stands all on its own.  Smile With The Eyes is a double LP pressed on 180 gram black vinyl and housed in a heavyweight gatefold sleeve. Limited edition to 500 numbered copies.) 31.00

FRANCISCO FRANCO - same LP (ne wimages - Francisco Franco are a trio originating in Philadelphia, playing instrumental music for two guitars, bass, and electronic rhythm tracks. The group started as a duo of Rob Francisco (who plays solo industrial noise as M Ax Noi Mach) and Matt Franco (from Allentown noise group Air Conditioning), who wanted a creative outlet for more melodic, less abrasive musical modes. After recording some demos, they added Nate Davis (who also plays as Unchained) on bass, and began composing songs of simple guitar lines intertwining over the bass’s harmonic foundation. Influences such as the first Microdisney LP, The Durutti Column, and ‘70s library records may be heard, but crowds at recent shows have made comparisons as diverse as Neu! and Dick Dale. This is new wave elevator music: melodic, minimal, and extremely listenable. Two cassettes of demos have been released by Silvox Recordings, and their debut LP is out on Matt Mondanile’s New Images Limited label.) 17.00

GLAXO BABIES - Put Me On The Guest List LP (superior viaduct - Glaxo Babies are the greatest UK post-punk band you’ve never heard. Formed in Bristol in late 1977 and named after the British pharmaceutical giant who allegedly inoculated thousands with a toxic vaccine, the original lineup included Rob Chapman (vocals), Dan Catsis (guitar), Tom Nichols (bass) and Geoff Alsopp (drums). The band’s pioneering mix of metallic guitar, dubbed-out rhythms and shamanistic chants found its way into the bloodlines of generations on both sides of the pond. Naturally, Glaxo members later joined The Pop Group and Maximum Joy. Originally released on Heartbeat Records in 1980, Put Me on the Guest List collects the band’s propulsive demos, mostly performed live in the studio with no overdubs and not originally intended for release. “This Is Your Life” is a veritable classic, with Chapman’s angst-ridden lyrics soaring low as the band rides tense, sinuous grooves. The skittish “Police State” stands toe-to-toe with the art-punk flag-bearers in the North (Gang of Four, Mekons) and in London (Wire, The Homosexuals). “Stay Awake” is a vitriolic screed as powerful as anything from the newly formed Public Image Limited. By the time England’s post-punk scene was in full bloom, dominating the pop charts in the UK and college radio in the US, Glaxo Babies had unfortunately dissolved.) 18.00

HARD CORPS - Rarities LP (miniomal wave – We are pleased to announce a strictly limited edition release of rare tracks by UK legends HARD CORPS. Hard Corps were true innovators of the 1980s UK synthpop scene. Apart from their releases on Survival and Polydor, Hard Corps gained some notoriety for their unique and uncompromising live shows throughout the 1980s. It was the juxtaposition between their hard edged industrial sound and the fragile and enigmatic vocals of French front woman REGINE FETET that created an unusual dichotomy, lending to their strength of character as a band and thus allowing them to stand out from the rest. A 12" white label, released by Survival Records, containing the hammering rhythmic attack of “Dirty” and the softer, melodic, pulse of “Respirer” (To Breathe) was circulated around London's dance floors. In no time a wave of attention hit them and throughout 1984 and into 1985 they dominated the independent pop charts. John Peel championed them on his infamous late night Radio One show and they headlined at his ICA Rock Week in the Mall, London. By 1985 Hard Corps had signed with major label giants Polydor. This enabled the band to work with a couple of their favoured and respected producers, MARTIN RUSHENT (known mostly for his exceptional work with the Human League) and Depeche Mode producer and Mute Records supremo, DANIEL MILLER) 22.00

IN AETERNAM VALE - Machine å Lave / Ultrabase LP (minimal wave - Minimal Wave is proud to present a third 12" single from our French favorites, IN AETERNAM VALE. This one is in the same vein as the Dust Under Brightness / Highway Dark Veins 12" and the La Piscine / Calling Somewhere 12". The single features two more epic, pioneering masterpieces. Machine à Laver (Washing Machine) sounding much like its title, is 12 minutes of pure electronic hypnotica. And the flip side is a more straightforward 127 bpm 11 minute number entitled Ultrabase - which is an unashamed slab of innovative dub techno from 1990, existing completely outside of its genre. Neither of these tracks have ever been released before. The pressing is limited to 999 copies, all pressed on 160 gram clear electric blue vinyl, accompanied by a hand-numbered matte printed sleeve.) 17.00

JOE IDAHO WINDSLOW - Secret Fleas In Dwarf Palace LP (psychic sounds  - "IDAHO JOE WINDSLOW is the inventor of the gongtar (cello with gong resonator), singing bowl gamelan (which is played standing with a back brace of mannequin arm singing bowl holders), and the voxtar (amplified sympathetic string fixture excited by voice). He backs himself up with a collection of exotic drum machines from India and the Middle East. Using hypnosis and lyrics he aims to send the listener into altered states of consciousness. A deeper follow up to his first album Smoke Your Fear, Secret Fleas is an intense personal collection of Windslow's mantras to morphing his 'fleas', as fear, into a usable psychic tool." First 200 orders screenprinted by CORUM.) 20.00

KUMULUS - s/t LP (dinglebettry - dark.melodic.instrumental.post-metal - from cologne/ger) 11.00

MATT BALDWIN - Imaginary Psychology LP (spiritual p - Matt Baldwin on the Fender Strat is the last living prophet. Here is a young man who plays with a technical skill and virtuosity that few can ever hope to attain, and does so rather easily. Wherever one hears this record, one will find him. His lucid tapes are for truck drivers, surfers, painters, pilots, miners, lovers, loners, what have you; for those in prayer; for those performing surgery; for those on the moving sidewalk… It’s music to win by. Baldwin’s latest work follows releases on American Dust and Tompkins Square. This deluxe album is pressed on white vinyl and comes packaged in a foil-stamped jacket replete with a bonus 7-inch flexi disc. Full release digital download includes the track Drowning Butterflies from the flexi.) 17.00

MIRKWOOD - Mirkwood LP (machu pichu - MIRKWOOD’s lone self-titled album was originally issued in 1973, in an edition of just 99 copies. Coming out of the port town of Dover, with each of the group members having honed their moves in various outfits for years (including the original ROLLING STONES from 1957—no relation to the Glimmer Twins). This album’s fantastic mix of precise hard rock and mysterious ballads has had many a private press enthusiast by the hair over the years. Crashing out of the gates with the one-two knockout combination of the fuzz shuffle of “Take My Love” and the epic 11-minute centerpiece of “Love’s Glass Of Sunshine,” this record is a classic deep listen, revealing great moments with each new spin. Killer harmonies and lots of twin-guitar lead action, tough and tender, this record is pure autumnal magic. We're very thrilled to have it available again on vinyl for the first time in many years. Remastered and restored by WARREN DEFEVER.) 21.00

OUT COLD - A Heated Display LP (painkiller - The final recordings from Out Cold. These tracks were begun in 2005 shortly after the release of their "Goodbye Cruel World" LP, but after a long and tumultuous ride, were not finished until 2012. After the untimely passing of long-time singer Mark Sheehan, the master tapes fell to the wayside, presumed to be lost. The session was eventually rescued from the abyss by engineer David Minehan, and original frontman Kevin Mertens was brought in to lay down vocals. Half of the session's 28 tracks are represented here - 14 songs, in a scant 20 minutes - in the typical, no-frills hardcore fashion that Out Cold perfected over their career.) 14.00

RUN THE JEWELS (EL-P & KILLER MIKE) - same LP + 12" (big dada - El P + Killer Mike = Run The Jewels. Rap’s most dangerous duo have teamed up with Fool’s Gold for their debut album. Ten tracks of speaker obliterating beats and razor sharp verses, laced with searingly honest emotion and pitch black humor.) 19.00

SCRAPER - same LP (cut rat - “Cut Rate Records (run by DAVID FOX of THE TRADITIONAL FOOLS) is proud to announce the s/t debut from San Fran's best kept punk rawk secret, SCRAPER!!!!!!! This full length comes hot on the heels of their rowdy, KBD indebted 7 inch debut on God? (also self titled) and continues on in the same budget rock / demented punk vein that got us hooked in the first place!!!! Scraper more than lives up to the agitation of Flipper and the Urinals' minimal chord RnR as well as out joking/partying the misanthropic punk of bands like the Angry Samoans, Spits and the Dead Milkmen'!!!!!. Kinda like they invented punk rock all over again in a parallel universe, throwing all the rules out the window, leaving behind something sludgy, ghetto, off kilter, blown out, drunken and feral as fuck. So yeah Scraper might've just unleashed the most addicting punk lp of the year. And HELL YES IT'S RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!!!"—Lance, Permanent) 16.00

SELF DEFENSE FAMILY - Try me DLP (deathwish –  Your favorite band's favorite band, Self Defense Family enjoys a distinct renown within the punk community. Eschewing sing-alongs and easy anthems in favor of personal lyrics, they stand apart from their contemporaries in punk and hardcore. Their strangely tense guitar work framed within otherwise hook-laden songs lends the band an unmistakable sound, opting to be heavy in emotion rather than heavy in sound. Vinyl version includes digital download.) 22.00

STEPHEN MALKMUS - Wig Out At Jagbags LP (domino - Wig Out At Jagbags is Stephen Malkmus' sixth solo effort with the Jicks and finds the formerPavement leader (alongside Joanna Bolme, JakeMorris & Mike Clark) at his most playful and joyous in recent memory. The album, written in Berlin & recorded in Belgium with longtime Pavement and Jicks associate Remko Schouten is a looser, more unbridled affair that gathers those trademark guitar moves and lyrical acrobatics into an amalgam of what SM himself calls: "Projected Imaginings of Rock and Roll from the freezing north, rendered by West Coast stalwarts and a Dutch Uncle".) 17.00

STEVE GUNN & MIKE GANGLOFF - Melodies For A Savage Fix LP (importan - STEVE GUNN and MIKE GANGLOFF (PELT) combine six-and 12-string guitars with gongs, tanpura, singing bowls, shruti box, and banjo fora gorgeous collection of improvised compositions. The two artists took it pretty far off the beaten path for Melodies for a Savage Fix, sequestering themselves for an overnight session in the remote farmhouse/recording studio of noted roots-music engineer JOSEPH DEJARNETTE (Carolina Chocolate Drops, Bruce Greene, Curtis Eller) in the countryside of Floyd County, Virginia. Pressed in an edition of 500.) 21.00

THEO PARRISH - Black Jazz Signature DLP (snowdog -  Arguably one of the world's most important underground dance music producer/DJs Theo Parrish lends his hands to selecting and mixing a set of jazz and funk records licensed from and originally released on the Black Jazz label 1971-1976. World-renowned for his DJ sets and remixes/productions, this Chicago-raised artist is near impossible to pigeonhole. Revered by a wide spectrum of dedicated music fanatics, he is known for his otherworldly DJ sets, and his serious approach to DJing as an art form. Theo gives special attention to fellow Chicago musicians The Awakening (three consecutive tracks, four total on the mix), one of the best funk/fusion groups that the Black Jazz label released, and whose only output was on that label. The set itself is a masterful "two turntables all vinyl" execution, a format that Theo is dedicated to -- no mp3, no CD-R, just the vinyl palette for the true aural experience. Sit back and be drawn into his world -- hear things his way. Other artists include: Doug Carn, Gene Russell, Calvin Keys, Rudolph Johnson, and Walter Bishop Jr.) 23.00

TUXEDOMOON - Scream With A View LP (superior viaduct - Founded by Steven Brown and Blaine Reininger in San Francisco, Tuxedomoon are a futuristic alternate reality of delirium and existential dread. Aligned with fellow Bay Area experimentalists The Residents (to whose Ralph Records the group eventually signed) and Robin Crutchfield’s post-DNA project Dark Day, Tuxedomoon developed a unique combination of synthesizer and guitar that placed them at the forefront of the US post-punk movement in the late ’70s and early ’80s. Scream With a View, recorded surreptitiously in The Residents’ private studio in 1979, advances brilliant melodic concepts through analog technology for a sound barely comprehensible today. On “Where Interests Lie,” punchy drum machine underlies barbed and eerie leads from guitarist Michael Belfer (The Sleepers). “(Special Treatment for the) Family Man”—a reference to Dan White’s trial for the assassination of San Francisco’s mayor George Moscone and supervisor Harvey Milk in 1978—is an indignant vigil cut with a rare brand of macabre humor. Saxophone, Polymoog, violin, e-bowed guitar, and CB radio interference make Scream With a View the insidious foil to the urgent No Tears EP.) 14.00

TUXEDOMOON - No Tears LP (superior viaduct - Their 1978 debut EP, No Tears, was recorded with vocalist Winston Tong and sound engineer Tommy Tadlock. Replete with tense synth swells, devastating live drums and a psychotic ode to the “creatures of the night,” the title track is a crucial entry in the synth-punk canon that stacks up next to the best work by Units and The Screamers. Reininger’s electric violin congeals with electronic atmospherics to unnerving ends on the instrumental “Litebulb Overkill.” Few records do justice to the mania and paranoia of a forsaken city; none do it for San Francisco like Tuxedomoon’s No Tears) 14.00

VAZ - Visiting Hours LP (Visiting Hours, the newest long-player from Brooklyn's VAZ for the SGG label, following 2011's precedent-obliterating Chartreuse Bull, manages to at once capture the live ferocity of the band as well as highlight their use of the studio as another weapon in a formidable aural arsenal. Our use of alliteration here should illustrate that we mean business. In fact, it's safe to say that the needle was buried so deep in the red that recording engineer BEN GREENBERG (The Men, Hubble) still hasn't managed to excavate it. Vaz are touring for the entirety of November in support of Visiting Hours" making stops all across the U.S. and sharing bills with label-mates and old and new friends alike. It is advised that you attend these shows.) 17.00

YEK KOO - Desolation Peak LP (emerald cocoon - The intimately confrontational vocal deconstructions rapping inside raw distortions of emotive gut on Desolation Peak owes something to East African ritual chants, which is not underestimate its illumination by the same electricity as A Handful Of Dust, Heather Leigh Murray, Jandek, or Gate’s Metric LP. YOUNG LOVERS - Sugar In My Pocket LP (southpaw - BRONTEZ PURNELL has spent the past decade becoming one of the Bay Area’s most prolific and promising artists. Shortly after his arrival in the early 2000’s Purnell joined electro dance super group GRAVY TRAIN!!! Which also consisted of Hunx and His Punx frontman Seth Bogart. The group spent the next few years releasing records on legendary label Kill Rock Stars and touring with Kathleen Hanna’s Le Tigre. During this time Purnell was also writing pop songs that didn’t fit with his current band. Shortly after the bands demise Purnell began releasing those pop songs under the name THE YOUNGER LOVERS. Now on his third LP under The Younger Lovers moniker Purnell gives us his best output yet, tapping in Bare Wires/Warm Soda frontman MATTHEW MELTON to record his pop masterpiece. Includes digital download.) 17.00

TAPES

MERKIT - discography TAPE (react with protest - Sounds Like: Left for Dead with blast beats, screamo-influenced song structures/dynamics, and heavy parts that sound like Indecision. They were also one of the few bands who completely embodied the D.I.Y. ethic that many bands merely pay casual lip service to) 5.00

BRUCE PAVITT - Experiencing Nirvana: Grunge In Europe, 1989 BOOK (bazllion - xperiencing Nirvana: Grunge in Europe, 1989, is a photo journal and a grunge rock micro-history; an inside look into a crucial eight-day period in the touring life of NIRVANA, and two other Seattle bands, as seen through the eyes of BRUCE PAVITT, the co-founder of Sub Pop Records, the Seattle label that first signed Nirvana in 1988. The dramatic eight days covered in this book, from November 27 through December 4, 1989, represented a turning point for Nirvana. In this brief period, the young band went from breaking up in Rome to winning over the influential British music press at Sub Pop’s LameFest UK showcase in London, setting the stage for their looming leap in popularity. On November 27, 1989, when Bruce Pavitt and his Sub Pop partner JONATHAN PONEMAN arrived to meet Nirvana in Rome, the band was almost finished with a grueling six week tour of Europe. Although determined to promote their grungy, riff-heavy debut album, Bleach, Nirvana’s travels with fellow Sub Pop act TAD had left them exhausted. Pavitt and Poneman did their best to revive the spirits of a frustrated and downcast KURT COBAIN. Despite a threatened leap from a 14-foot speaker tower, soon followed by the theft of his passport and wallet, Cobain managed to continue to London, where Nirvana played the biggest and most important show of its career to date. Nirvana’s breakthrough night at the 2,000-capacity Astoria Theatre in London featured three Seattle Sub Pop acts: Nirvana, Tad, and popular headliners MUDHONEY. Nirvana opened the show, and their heart-pounding performance won over the crowd and changed the band’s fate. The powerful London music press proclaimed that Nirvana was “Sub Pop’s answer to the Beatles.” After that night, the world’s attention began to focus on the band that would become the biggest rock act of their generation. “Sub Pop didn’t have much to work with. We knew Seattle was developing a distinctive brand of heavy, soulful, grungy rock, but we weren’t sure who our next bands were going to be. Then, everything unfolded. This is a Nirvana story with a joyful ending”—Bruce Pavitt) 35.00
