THE BITE "Right Down Your Alley" LP
Mottos scratched on desks, scribbled on toilet doors and on the rubber handrails of the escalators, on Formica tops in cellars; phrases covering folders, written on badges, t-shirts and skin. Screaming at concerts, at protests, in the doll line and in the bakery queue. Singing in the waiting rooms or even at parents meetings. Chorusing with beer in the halls, always shouting on stages, remembering old times while having a eight hour vermouth, DJing at barbecues with a turntable and whispering to the new born children, here and now. Things that are important, truths for which time never pass. Yesterday and tomorrow, yesterdaytomorrow: The Bites’ songs.
YES: To saying yes, to saying yeah, to the choruses in LA clef and singing along in LO clef, to always reaching the centre of things. To looking for action, to strange glowing kids, to the losers who always win, to Friday afternoon beer, when the secret world comes out and there’s partying and chinking of glasses. To soaped up Rickenbackers, to Secret Affair and to Sugar Minott, to Orwell listening to his friends precarious trumpets, to playing for the pleasure of playing, to playing faster, to playing purely, yes to looking after yourself, to looking after those you love, to being, to belonging to an idea that doesn’t disappear, to an idea that’s like an insect in a ball of amber: it will shine and last for millenniums; Yes to saying NO.
NO: To always saying yes, to thinking everything is relative, to the rich with no fillings and privileged genetics, to the bigorexic twits with walnut brains and to their fascist parading, to the talk show guests that work for money like public hospital TVs, to the double thinking of Orwell and the security cameras in Orwell Square, no to ukuleles with flowers, to fakes and fickles and climbers; no to they won’t get through, no to stop playing, never.
The Bite are back with Right Down Your Alley, and this and a lot more is what they have to say. The Bite are home, the orchestra of our best moments, the karaoke of our cavalry, the riffs that turn us into Pavlov poodles, crazy: they make us wag our tails, ask for beer, snap our fingers, leave, hug simple and beautiful things. Like their songs, songs that are bites: they are hard, small, but leave flavour and an eco.
The Bite are back! Long life to The Bite!
