7“

APOGEE SOUND CLUB - belligerent 7" (Four blasts of Underground Sonic Energy featuring members of THE REACTION, 50 MILLION, THE KIRBY GRIPS, THE HICKOIDS and many more. The record comes with an amazing comic book/lyric sheet put together by the folks at Mission Mini Comix. From KFJC - "Angry, disjointed scrap rock with a strong political focus from this SF trio. While this has a distinct punk sound, they reject this term, opting for a more open ended, anti-authoritarian ideology of underground sonic energy.") 5.00

GRINDING HALT / PINE BARRENS - split 7" (degraan - Another awesome pairing of bands on this 7” slab. Pine Barrens from the UK made a huge impression with their Kingmaker lp last year and the two tracks on here are in that same vein. Technical metallish hardcore rage which is hard to classify but if you want names i’ll say bands like Rorschach and Botch will cover some of it. Listen and judge yourself but i’m incredibly proud to partcipate in a release by these gents. They are simply briljant. Grinding Halt come forth with one longer track which combines everything they do so well. Mixing all the good stuff from hardcore, punk, sludge and metal with some high pitched vocals on top. Topnotch hardcore vinyl with killer artwork from Marald to finish it off.) 5.00

THE MANSION - congregation hymns vol. 1 7" (streaks -The Finnish Kartanoist weirdos are a band to watch, and their new single is a fascinating departure from the overt doom sounds of last year’s outstanding We Shall Live EP. From the swinging heavy rock ‘n’ roll of “Wild Child” to the brooding, Coven-derived “New Dawn”, not to mention the free-form saxophone solos, this is welcome new music before the forthcoming full-length debut, which is presently being recorded and will apparently continue more in the doom direction of the EP - See more at: http://www.decibelmagazine.com/featured … lLYl.dpuf) 5.00

RAD CLOUD - the tricky jerk 7" (Part Chubby Checker style dance single, part surf music, the A side (or Face A in this case) is a fun toe tapper. The B side features a loose interpretation of Mal Waldron's "Warm Canto". If it has a garage sound that's most likely because it was recorded in a garage. Awesome stuff.) 5.00

V/A - Taang! Records: The First 10 Singles BOX SET (taang - RSD 2014 release - Hand-picked and lovingly curated and annotated by label founder Curtis Casella, Taang! Records: The First 10 Singles consists of ten 7-inch records; a 24-song CD; and a 24-page liner notes book, all housed in a deluxe outer case. It tells the stories of the artists who built one of the most impressive music catalogs in all of American punk and hardcore. Each 7-inch is housed in a full recreation of its original sleeve, and all musical selections are also found on a CD included in the set.  From snot-nosed Gang Green anthems like "Alcohol" and "Terrorize" to the Lemonheads' melodic, proto-alternative "Glad I Don't Know" and Slapshot's instant moshpit creator "Same Mistake," these 10 groundbreaking singles are what made Taang! an undeniable force to be reckoned with.  Taang! Records [an acronym standing for "Teen Agers Are No Good!"] was formed in 1984, as an outgrowth of and support system for the explosive Boston punk and hardcore scene that produced SS Decontrol [SSD], DYS, Jerry's Kids, the F.U.s and so many more. Like its counterpart in Los Angeles, SST Records, each new Taang! platter unleashed a sonic fury and inventiveness that made the '80s one of the most unique musical decades of the 20th Century. As Casella says in the set's liner notes: "There was no real record label [for punk music] in Boston at the time. At least none that I felt were representing Boston properly. That's where I stepped in.") 60.00

LP

ABRAKADABRA / MAGNAPINNA - split LP (Split between the noise / math rock magicians Abrakadabra ( memebrs of tephra ) Magnapinna from Leeds - 30 minutes of dissonant and uberintense music!) 11.00

ANTI RITUAL - s/t LP (vendetta - ANTI RITUAL ( with members of lack, rising ... ) from copenhagen will crush your head, brutal metallic hardcore rage... , some friend said it sounds like a mix of nails and entombed... find out for yourself: http://indisciplinarian.bandcamp.com/album/anti-ritual) 11.00

BASTARD NOISE / BLOODRET BACTERIA - from zero to hero and blackwards LP (streaks - Both bands share one track with a cross-over-fade in the middle to switch from Bloodred Bacteria to Bastard Noise. 1-sided 12" 45rpm with a silk-screening on the b-side.  HC/Grind melts with massive skull electronics.) 11.00

BLOOD SUCKERS _ crush to dust LP (Debut 12" from this new Osloband including members of Problems, Okkultokrati and Urbanoia! Primitive in-your-face hardcore at its best. https://soundcloud.com/tigerfysisiskfor … sciplined) 12.00

CATACOMBE - guidam LP (wolves - Going back to mid 2007, in Vale de Cambra, a town that became recognized by its diverse instrumental bands/projects, CATACOMBE born by the hand of Pedro Sobast with the first songs of "Memoirs", an EP recorded at home, over a span of a year, and later released in 2008, arousing the interest of many fans that desired to see the songs live! So, the first lineup, featuring Pedro along with some friends, gave it’s first concert as a band at Fábrica do Som, Porto, opening for Nadja. In 2010 the band released a full-length album,”Kinetic", recorded between January/March at Soundvision Studios and mastered in the US by James Plotkin; Then, in late 2010, CATACOMBE signed with the Russian label Slow Burn Records for a CD release worldwide. Deep lineup changes takes place in 2011 with the arrival of a new drummer, new bassist and new guitar player! Currently CATACOMBE are: Pedro Sobast, Gil Cerqueira, Filipe Ferreira and Pedro Melo Alves. Following, CATACOMBE started writing new songs for their next album! "QUIDAM" is the band 3rd record, a 6-song album with 36 minutes running time, recorded at Caos Armado and mixed/mastered by Roland Wiegner (Long Distance Calling, Omega Massif) at Die Tonmeisterei, Oldenburg, Germany. Sometimes explosive, other times delicate, "QUIDAM” results in a very emotional and dense cinematic brand of post-rock, that would build amazing landscapes on your head! During these six years of activity, CATACOMBE shared stage with bands like Tides From Nebula, A Storm of Light, Nadja, Minsk, My Own Private Alaska... and participated as the surprise band at Amplifest 2013, among such great names like Russian Circles, Deafheaven, Chelsea Wolfe, Year of No Light...) 11.00

CHAIN AND THE GANG - Minimum Rock n Roll LP (radical -This spring, Chain & the Gang will release its fourth full-length album, Minimum Rock n Roll, on Ian Svenonius' imprint, Radical Elite. Chain & the Gang is led by Svenonius, the prime mover behind the bands Nation of Ulysses and The Make-Up, and author of two books — Psychic Soviet and Supernatural Strategies for Making a Rock 'n' Roll Group— not to mention online talk show host and auteur filmmaker. The band deals in a new genre called CRIME ROCK that updates rock n roll, blues, and gospel music of the late 50s /early 60s for the discerning few.) 17.00

C'EST DOMMAGE - routine pleasures LP (fully international - You could call this '90s indie revival but the folks in c'est dommage never stopped loving and playing the stuff that they were into 20 years ago. Comparisons to the likes of PAVEMENT, SUPERCHUNK, FUGAZI and RITES OF SPRING aren't much of a surprise. Ten songs recorded with Jack Shirley at The Atomic Garden in the Spring of 2013. Cover art by illustrator Shannon May. Includes digital download.) 11.00

DAIKON - complaining songs LP (fully international - The band's second full length but first to see a proper vinyl release. Eight pop gems in 25 minutes from three folks who obviously came of age in the '90s. Digital download included.) 11.00

DAVID NOVICK - Your Sister's Hand LP (god - Your Sister's Hand stands distinctly from his debut, bringing the deep-country campfire folk vibe in from the great out-of-doors, where the shape of the sound is more defined and more pronounced, forward and colorful in arrangement, all of which allows the songs to shine brighter. Filled with light and fragrant sounds and songs, Your Sister's Hand is a hypnotic day-trip that wants to ride along with you as you go.) 18.00

ENO * HYDE - someday world 2xLP (warp - Brian Eno and Karl Hyde (of Underworld) come together with a new album to be released this May on Warp Records. This is the first vocal/band project from Eno since 2008's David Byrne collaboration. Someday World comprises nine songs, composed and sung by Eno & Hyde together with a highly distinguished cast of supporting musicians, including Eno's Roxy Music bandmate Andy Mackay, Tessa Angus, Nell Catchpole, Marianna Champion, Will Champion, Kasia Daszykowska, Don E., Darla Eno, Georgia Gibson, John Reynolds and Chris Vatalaro. Following his 2013 Grammy nominated album LUX, Brian Eno produced this new album with 20 year old Fred Gibson, and continues an ongoing collaboration between Hyde & Eno which sees the two together on a complete album for the first time. "I had a big collection of 'beginnings' sitting around waiting for something to galvanise them into life, to make them more than just 'experiments'. That something turned out to be Karl Hyde." -Brian Eno.) 20.00

FENNESZ - Bécs LP (editons mego - The last time Fennesz released an album on Austrian label Mego it was 2001 and the name of that release was 'Endless Summer'. Now, in 2014 Editions Mego is extremely proud to release the conceptual follow up that landmark of abstract pop. Bécs (pronounced 'baeetch') is Hungarian for Vienna and is the first full length Fennesz solo release since 2008's 'Black Sea'. Eschewing the more drone orientated works of 'Black Sea', 'Bécs' returns to the more florid pop mechanisms as deployed on Endless Summer. 'Static Kings' features the extra leverage of Werner Dafeldecker and Martin Brandlmayer who deploy a range of atmospheric abstract effects to shape a bewitching sound world. The 10 minute centrepiece 'Liminality' (featuring Tony Buck on drums) is classic Fennesz: epic, evocative, beautiful, impossible. 'Pallas Athene' creates a sanctuary of hovering beauty which leads into the title track. Emotional and assured, the track 'Bécs' is an astonishing contribution to contemporary pop. 'Sav' co-written by Cédric Stevens (aka Acid Kirk) inhabits a less structural terrain as one enters a forest of small sounds and oblique atmospheres, where the closing 'Paroles', a gentle melody unravels amongst swirls of electronics and fried disruption. Bécs is not just an album or a series of songs, it's a world to inhabit, a landscape ripe with sounds, songs and that esteemed Fennesz signature.) 17.00

JON PORRAS - Light Divide LP (thrill jockey - Jon Porras creates drone music with a refined sense of atmosphere and remarkable forward motion. Regardless of the tools he uses, be it guitars and stacks of amplifiers or modular synthesizers, Porras creates cavernous sound-worlds that are as inviting as they are alien. Light Divide, his second solo release for Thrill Jockey, shows Porras shifting his focus entirely to electronic synthesis, using a wide array of analog and digital systems to exponentially expand his sonic palate. The resulting sounds are silhouettes of distant rhythms, abstracted traces of techno wastelands that come in and out of focus like an urban, post-industrial sprawl being overtaken by fog. Porras constructed and arranged the tracks on Light Divide as an architect would design a building, thinking of the sub-bass as a foundation, percussion as walls and support beams, and white noise and oblique melodies as the light filling the open spaces. Rather than writing passages or song structures, he focused on designing sounds from the ground up, building gestural movements with these sculpted slabs. Through this technique, patterns and musical phrases emerge in subtle and surprising ways. This theme of architecture and design is reflected in the album cover, which was taken at Maison La Roche, a villa designed and built by Le Corbusier. Light Divide reveals Porras as a restless explorer, constantly finding new means by which to create expansive, impressionistic music. It demands close listening, and stands apart in Porras’ solo and Barn Owl discography for its intense attention to detail.) 16.00

LITURGY - Aesthetica DLP (thrill jockey – back in print - Aesthetica, the third release and second album from Liturgy, shows the band exploring in greater depth themes initially touched on by their critically acclaimed debut album Renihilation. The band used every instrument, literal or figurative, to produce meaning and intensity, disregarding the genre boundaries of black metal, hardcore, and experimental music. On Renihilation, Liturgy made use of simple song structures, and concentrated on sustaining a blindingly high intensity level from start to finish. Aesthetica, a more controlled and polyvalent effort, finds the band operating at multiple levels and using more varied forms. The music is both elaborately crafted and chaotically performed. Songs often begin in the form of a simple chant or hypnotic abstraction, then evolve into something dense and complex. The record is a unified whole. The music is supersaturated with lofty melodies and lyrics, bursting with frenzied execution, and builds to a boiling point of chaos, distorting all meaning and distilling to reveal the raw core of pure sonic joy.) 19.00

OFF! - wasted years LP (vice – Combining reckless, improvisational energy with the combined skills of four deadly sharp musicians (vocalist Keith Morris, guitarist Dimitri Coats, bassist Steven McDonald, and drummer Mario Rubalcaba), OFF! has dug down through a decade's worth of accumulated stylistic garbage and rediscovered the stripped-down core of noise, speed, and rock 'n' roll that punk seemed to have lost forever. Their third full-length studio recording, "Wasted Years," is the most direct and in-your-face embodiment of OFF!'s mission yet. Vinyl version includes MP3 album download.) 19.00

PARASIGHT - munden fuld af logn // lommen fuld af profit LP (diy - Denmark’s crust/d-beat outfit Parasight are ready with their debut LP called “Munden Fuld Af Løgn, Lommen Fuld Af Profit” LP, it is out now on Modstand Records  in Denmark and Phobia Records from Czech Republic. Parasight's sound is aggresive and discordant yet melodic crust/d-beat infused hardcore, and certainly Im digging it a lot, its diverse and engaging) 10.00

PURLING HISS - Dizzy Polizzy LP (drag city - Mike Polizze bought his tape machine in 1999 and immediately ran himself around the bases, and in 2004 he joined up with Birds of Maya, andwas crowned "Dizzy." He had access to all the instruments needed, Birds' Ben Leaphart drummed on a couple songs, and in 2006 a CDR called "Dizzy Polizzy" came together. Capitalizing on the newfound demand for Hisstrionics, Mike made a tour only cassette of Dizzy Polizzy in 2011, combining those original six CD-R songs with some well-fitting additions circa 2007_2009. This album reissues the cassette compilation on LP for the first time ever.) 18.00

RANK / XEROX - same LP (blast fist - The debut LP from San Francisco post-punkers RANK/XEROX. The album follows a now-out-of-print four-song 7" and a split cassette with Grass Widow. Their sound is one of post-punk tension, messy but vaguely pop in a fractured fashion, guitar scratchers and synth screamers. The LP inhabits darker, danker spaces than previous recordings; damaged dirges seep out from a confused consciousness and are stared down by obtuse ragers and disorienting excursions into the synth zone. Recorded in a Chinatown dungeon by San Francisco luminaries ERIC BAUER (aka King Riff) and TY SEGALL.) 15.00

RED KRAYOLA - Hazel LP (drag city - In 1996, the 90s edition of the Red Krayola roared out loud with Hazel. This LP was received rapturously by young (& let's face it, somewhat clueless) post-rockers everywhere, and featured Mayo Thompson riding herd over a cast of dozens.) 17.00

RED KRAYOLA - Singles DLP (drag city - Their first release in four years is a comprehensive compilation of their singles from 1969-2004, including all the hits and misses. An interesting overview of this uncompromising band. Features "Woof," "Old Tom Clark," "Pig Ankle Strut," "Wives in Orbit," "Yik Yak," "Micro-chips & Fish," "The Story So Far Born in Flames," "The Sword of God," "An Old Man's Dream The Milkmaid," "Rattenmensch: Gewichtswächter Zukunftsfleiger," "The Red Crayola on Forty-Five," "Your Body Is Hot," "4Teen," "Stink Program," "Chemistry," Farewell to Arms," "Come On Down," and "Stil de Grain Brun.") 23.00

RED KRAYOLA - Coconut Hotel LP (drag city - In the Red Krayola alphabet between Arable and Bless... — learn your ACBs, kids! First heard in 1994, these legendary recordings were shelved in ’67 for being too freaked-out! Today, they are sweet freak-outs to our ears.) 17.00

SD LAIKA - That's Harakiri LP (tri angle -

SEAN McCANN & MAXWELL AUGUST CROY - I LP (students - Composed and recorded in Los Angeles and San Francisco, I is the debut full-length album by Maxwell August Croy and Sean McCann. Croy is best known for his work in Bay Area duo En, wherein he processes koto, voice and other instrumentation into ecstatic and nuanced drone-based recordings; McCann is a solo artist whose work continues to undergo seismic evolutions, manifested most recently on the justly lauded Music for Private Ensemble, an album of autodidactic modern composition that defies easy categorization. Working as a duo, Croy and McCann synthesize compositional and aesthetic tropes from their respective discographies to produce something extraordinary. “Parting Light (Suite)” opens the album with a flurry of koto, cello and violin lines masterfully woven together; a complex movement that dissembles to reveal a more spacious environment in which each gesture takes on a heightened significance. Croy’s koto lends the piece an Eastern aura complimented by McCann’s playing, equal parts idiosyncratic and grandiose. Elsewhere, “Alexandria” finds the duo operating at their most celestial, working their instruments into a harrowing, beautiful dirge comprised of clarion tones and wide-eyed string arrangements. Ultimately, Croy and McCann cultivate an utterly unique sensibility on I, perhaps situated best somewhere among the soundworlds of Gavin Bryars, Taj Mahal Travellers and Richard Skelton. The LP was mastered by Rashad Becker and the jacket features exclusive monotypes by Andrew Chalk.) 18.00

THE SHANGRI LAS - Leader of the Pack (Reissue) LP (Heavy weight reissue of the seminal New York girl group's debut album. Few girl groups of the 1960s can lay claim to being as influential as The Shangri-Las. Eschewing the glitz’n’glamour of their Motown contemporaries, the group’s melodramatic songs and tough girl image - often at odds with lead singer Mary’s tremulous vocals – have resonated across the decades in the recordings of Blondie, Amy Winehouse, and Bat For Lashes. They made their Red Bird debut with producer ‘Shadow’ Morton’s opus ‘Remember (Walking In The Sand)’. Between 1964 and 1966 they charted 11 US Hot 100 singles. Recorded to capitalise on their US No.1 death disc classic ‘Leader Of The Pack’ (penned by Ellie Greenwich & Jeff Barry), Side 1 of this mono 12-tracker brings The Shangs’ distinctive sound and penchant for tear-stained heartbreak to the fore with tracks such as ‘Easier To Cry’ and ‘What Is Love?’, while Side 2 includes rough’n’ready live recordings of the Isley Brothers’ ‘Twist And Shout’, the Phil Upchurch stomper ‘You Can’t Sit Down’ and, harking back to their high school roots, The Chantels’ ‘Maybe’. The album’s opener, ‘Give Him A Great Big Kiss’, was immediately spun off as a single, peaking at US No. 18 in early 1965.) 16.00

SPENKING - Bad Blood, Good Blood LP (SPENKING is Spencer Kingman making his LP debut after more than a decade of recording and playing with Dirty Projectors, Flaspar, Viking Moses, Low Skies, Deer Tick, Castanets and Jana Hunter. Kingman sings lively, unencumbered melodies in a lovely high-register over inventive guitar work. His arrangements are direct and sparse. This inviting, intimate sound is contrasted with dense rhyming lyrics charged with an obscure sense of catastrophe, disorientation, and dread.) 19.00

SURVIVAL KNIFE - loose power LP (fat possum - When Unwound broke up in 2002, the pioneering post-rock band left a hole in the musical firmament that dozens of acts have been trying and failing to patch up in the years since. Try as they might, they could never quite reach the perfect balance of tension and release, spiny and smooth that made the Olympia-based trio’s work so damn powerful. That is until Survival Knife came to life. Bringing together two ex-Unwound bandmates Justin Trosper and Brandt Sandeno, Survival Knife is another bracing and energetic shot to the dome by these singular songwriters, and one that they are eager to embrace. Getting to this point, however, took some doing. Unlike all of his former musical brethren, singer/guitarist Trosper didn’t have any interest in music after Unwound split. Instead, he moved to Los Angeles for a stretch, going to school and helping other bands with recording projects. But after returning to his hometown of Olympia, the itch to take up his guitar against the world returned, and, with the help of longtime musical companion Sandeno and his friends Kris Cunningham (drums) and Meg Cunningham (bass), Survival Knife was born. The first major statement to arrive from Survival Knife is Loose Power, the band’s debut full length, released on Glacial Pace Recordings. Recorded with Stuart Hallerman (Soundgarden, Earth) and Matt Buscher, the album ably weds the riffage of classic rock outfits like Blue Oyster Cult and Led Zeppelin with the feverish angular pulse of contemporaries such as Fugazi and Blonde Redhead.  Lyrically, Trosper circles back on the existential and global concerns that marked much of Unwound's best material. This time around, though, his words feel more cutting and direct. He tears to shreds the devilish financial industry ("Heaven Has No Eyes") and global paranoia ("Loose Power"), while also leaving you with the devastating image of a lone man running away from his own despair ("Fell Runner").) 18.00

TEEN - The Way And Color DLP (carparlk - Any great band evolves. And so even though TEEN had certainly made some excellent, acclaimed music in their first few years of existence, they knew they were still discovering their voice - in more than one sense of the word.

TEEN have found that voice on their brilliant second album, The Way and Color, one reason why it’s such a stunning creative breakthrough. Singer-multi-instrumentalist Teeny Lieberson’s voice is starkly highlighted, but the whole album is a conversation between Katherine Lieberson’s crafty, minimalist drumming, Boshra AlSaadi’s lithe, sinuous bass lines, and Lizzie Lieberson’s irresistible synth hooks. The music is filled with overlapping countermelodies of vocals and synth lines; even Katherine’s drums are hooky, so that the songs become ingenious interlocking sonic mantras. Imagine an integration of playfully off-balance rhythms and orchestrated dissonance, spaciously filtered through TEEN’s distinctive musical vision. And listen closely: the tracks are filigreed with all kinds of fascinating events buried deep in the mix.) 20.00

TAPE

NO FEALTY - in the shadow of the monolith TAPE (No Fealty is a five piece band from Copenhagen, Denmark who formed in January of 2012.  No Fealty is comprised of current and former members of Thought Police and the almighty Hexis.  No Fealty play a jawdroppingly heavy style of music that infuses several subgenres of hardcore/punk including hardcore, punk, crust, and grindcore.  No Fealty combine these different styles of music seamlessly and almost effortlessly.  The end result is an insanely powerful, dark, chaotic, and volatile style of music that's impossible to ignore.  Musically, No Fealty may be said to give nods to bands such as Cursed, Integrity, Pig Destroyer, Left For Dead, and Tragedy.  This unholy amalgamation of sounds results in a sound that breathes fresh air into a scene of  music that often begins to be oversaturated by bands aping on a current trend of music. (Hello Crust, Black Metal, Shoegaze bands)  The Shadow Of The Monolith is the band's debut eleven song LP, which was released via Angry Music Records, 5FeetUnder Records, TNS Records, Gheea Music, Break the Silence Records, Swarm of Nails on August 9th, 2013.  Overall, The Shadow Of The Monolith is a phenomenal album. ( manic compression ) 5.00

OCCULT HAND - Occult Hand TAPE (night shcool - Limited to 50 on 666ties. Easily one of our favourite new configurations, Occult Hand build and de-build the fantasies of paranoia inherent in modern reality. Whether seeping out like a decaying mist over a degraded cityscape or in full-on rumble and scratch mode, the 4 emissions here are as real as they come. Lightless drone punctuated by a sense of historical ennui only evident in the most unsettled of psyches. Great, great stuff.) 7.00
