7“

THE ACHTUNGS - Full Of Hate 7" (total punk - Total Punk is starting the summer off with a bang. Finland's ACHTUNGS definitely got the memo that here at Total Punk we love songs about hate because they gave us one of the finest songs on the subject these ears have ever heard. A raw blast of pure punk hatred with a hook to boot.. and the Achtungs are here to shove that boot up your ass. Prepare to feel the hate! 100% TOTAL PUNK!) 6.50

ANOMALYS - Deadline Blues 7" (slovenly - This is the darkest effort yet from from the negative tequila sex beat bringers, Amsterdam’s ANOMALYS. The A-nomaly side of this single, “Deadline Blues, ” is a tough assed mid-tempo threat, with the B-nomaly flip side “NO MORE!” picking up the pace a dog’s hair for another dancefloor killer from our favorite behemoth Dutch demons!) 6.00

FLESH WORLD - A Line In Wet Grass 7" (iron lung - “Our friend Jenn Pelly once described FLESH WORLD like this: ‘Imagine spiky melodies and washes of reverb mixed with the driving intensity of cold, post-punk spirit—skull-piercing guitar feedback, scratchy riffs, anxious drum builds, ominous moods, and bright guitar hooks when you'd least expect them.’ and we would be hard pressed to put it better than that.” Sounds by BRAD DERMANOUELIAN. Art by MARTIN SORRONDEGUY. First pressing of 500 copies on black vinyl packed in a heavy felt-weave jacket with a handy little insert and download.) 6.50

THE FLINTETTES - Open Your Eyes 7" (la ti da - Boasting recent releases from awesome groups like Needles/Pins, Maniac, and the Steve Adamyk Band, La Ti Da Records has to be considered one of the best labels out there. What a roster! The latest essential release from La Ti Da is the debut EP from THE FLINTETTES. With a lineup including MIKE FLINTOFF (THE TRANZMITORS), CC ROSE (VANCOUGAR), AND MARISSA JOHNSON (DIZZY EYES), this star-studded Vancouver trio arrives with considerable promise. And they do no disappoint! By all means, I think Tranzmitors fans will approve. But the two bands are quite different. The Flintettes are less powerpop/punk and more pure pop—like if you took those Costello/Weller influences and fast forwarded them from 1977 to 1980. Think jangly pop with a touch of northern soul in the vocal arrangements. I'm warning you now that if you listen to "Open Your Eyes" a couple times, it will be stuck in your head until next Tuesday. It has a great melody, and those backing vocals are so on point. "It Could've Been Love" is equally stellar and hearkens back to Elvis Costello's classic period without coming off like an imitation. Edition of 300 copies.) 5.00

GAG - Locker Room 7" (iron lung - Your favorite mid-tempo manglers are back with "Locker Room," the tour single and premier track from the upcoming GAG LP later this year on Iron Lung Records. Sounds by DAVE HARVEY. Art by SCOTT YOUNG. Limited edition of 500 copies housed in a high quality felt-weave sleeve and download.) 6.50

GIORGIO MURDERER - primitive world 7" (goner - Giorgio Murderer is Buck Biloxi’s synthetic doppelgĂ€nger, doppelgĂ€ngbanging all over the place. All over your face! Where Buck Biloxi’s guitars stumble and crumble, Giorgio Murderer’s cheap synthesizer burps and passes out. Confused malevolence remains intact. This four-song EP includes a cover / homage / tribute / re-enactment of Three-Six Mafia’s “Studio Time.”) 6.00

LIFE STINKS - Portraits 7" (total punk - San Francisco's kings of misanthropy are back with two more tracks of slow brooding bummer punk that lurch along like a dead legged man. Covered in a wall of noise, negative vibes, and the booming dual drum assault. LIFE STINKS are equal parts Flipper, No Trend, and Germs and 100% TOTALLY PUNK.) 6.50

MORT MORT MORT ( aussitot mort ) - le chant des sirenes 7" (music fears - 2 new songs by this french post hardcore / emo band...) 5.00

THE NEXT - Make It Quick 7" (cheap rewards - THE NEXT formed in early 1978 after seeing the Sex Pistols play their home town of San Antonio. They soon moved to Austin and became one of only a handful of punk groups in the area, helping to jump start a scene that would later be one of the most recognized in the country. The Make It Quick EP was released in short supply in 1979 and touted some of the fiercest tunes of the era including the classic "Cheap Rewards," which provided the namesake of this here label. Few realize the song wasn't originally intended for the EP. After dusting off some old 1/4" reel tapes we discovered not only an unreleased and forgotten song titled "Stupid Girls," but also a live radio appearance where the band discusses their upcoming EP with "Mr. Wonderful," "Monotony" and "Stupid Girls.") 9.00

NO FAITH - dead weight 7" (vendetta - Grinding, noise-saturated reality likely to damage your hearing and your brain. Three-quarters of fan-fave Vaccine ( so basically members of orchid, ampere, failures... ) as well as 1/3 of the legendary SQRM attack with violent blasts of power punctuated and couched with harsh and bleak bursts of noise. this is what they call power violence...) 5.00

NUDES - Stain 7" (iron lung - Get grimy and low to sensationally uncomfortable hardcore punk music. NUDES lives beneath the street. Nudes is that dirt you swept under the rug. Well guess what, that shit doesn't go away. It disperses and envelops. Sooner or later your life will be nothing but dirt. It's all you'll be able to hear and think on. Nudes loves you. Nudes wants you in their world, under their rug, enthralled and crawling. All on black vinyl. Sounds by DAVE HARVEY. Art by MARYJANE DUNPHE. Packaged in a big foldout poster sleeve along with a digital download that includes the band-made video for "Bleach Stains." Includes a download.) 6.50

REPLICA -  Beast 7" (prank - Blasting urgency with the song-driven edge of early ‘80s so-cal hardcore mixed at top speed with the brash edges of ‘90s East Bay punk, this second EP on Prank by Oakland's REPLICA features six tracks of powerful hardcore underlined with undeniable catchiness. Fueled by lighting-quick drumming, pummeling bass lines, ripping riffs, and snarling vocals, Beast EP was recorded at the end of the tour they did last year with Japan's Completed Exposition and it features songs that have long been staples of the band's live set. The EP was recorded at Earhammer by GREG WILKINSON and features a deluxe cover with multiple illustrations by local artist JON CARLING. Replica will tour the East Coast in late June / early July.= 6.00

ROSE WINDOWS - there is a light 7" (sub pop - This single includes two new, previously-unreleased songs by Seattle band Rose Windows. "There is a Light" was written near the end of the band's sessions for their 2013 Sub Pop LP, The Sun Dogs, and it highlights the band's talent for creating driving, psych-tinged pop. "Fix Me," the B-side, was written under the influence of Curtis Mayfield, who was in heavy rotation while the band toured in support of The Sun Dogs.) 6.50

XIU XIU / LAWRENCE ENGLISH - Lamc No. 8 7" (The eighth in Famous Class’ LAMC split series featuring an unreleased A-side track from one of the label’s favorite band’s, backed with a B-side track from a lesser-known artist handpicked by the A-side group. The series gets its name from the epic Less Artists More Condos concerts that the late ARIEL PANERO threw in New York, showcasing amazing bands in some strange and unique venues. Ariel’s driving force was a desire to get the bands he believed in the recognition he felt they deserved. This series simply tries to honor that idea.) 7.00

LP

APARTMENT 213 - cleveland power violence LP (fuck yoga - Since their inception over 20 years ago in Cleveland, Ohio- APARTMENT 213 has represented embodiment of inbred brutality and all things wrong. Stompy, metallic hardcore that has been distilled to satisfy the finest standards. This is unforgiving, confronting, fighting music- the end of the road.  Album includes collaborations with LOCKWELD and BASTARD NOISE.) 11.00

BUILT TO SPILL - Ultimate Alternative Wavers LP (modern classics - REISSUED ON BLACK VINYL!!! Modern Classics Recordings is proud to present for the first time on vinyl Built to Spill’s debut album, Ultimate Alternative Wavers. Showcasing a nod to Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr, UAW was recorded at Audio Lab Studios in the band’s hometown of Boise, Idaho and soon after released on Seattle imprint C/Z Records in 1993. Featuring former Treepeople member Doug Martsch, Caustic Resin’s Brett Netson, and drummer Ralf Youtz the album features total rippers like the 9 minute “Built Too Long Parts 1, 2 & 3”, while hazy daze of “Nowhere Nothin’ Fuckup” lyrically pays homage to Velvet Underground’s “Oh! Sweet Nuthin”. While it may have been the band’s debut, UAW still remains a special time capsule from one of modern rock’s great bands that are still going strong after 21 years. Pressed on black vinyl.) 23.00

COMET GAIN - paperback ghosts LP (fortuna pop - Recorded at Soup Studios with producer Simon Trought at the helm, and inspired by the psycho-geography of walks in North London woods and in the forgotten grey hinterland of the city’s back streets, Comet Gain's seventh album Paperback Ghosts comes soaked in autumn melancholy. Tender-hearted but not miserable, defiant but not angry, it maintains the delicate balance that has always been Comet Gain’s strength.) 18.00

COUNCIL OF RATS - Ill Weathers LP (adagio830 - Council Of Rats is a four piece band from Milan, Italy who formed in April of 2012.  Council Of Rats features members of Seesaw and La Crisi.  Council Of Rats play a scathing, unhinged, and venomous style of hardcore.  Council Of Rats can loosely be compared to bands such as Glasses, Jungbluth, No Statik, and Punch.  After releasing a stellar six song EP in April of 2013, Council Of Rats have returned with their debut ten song LP.  Ill Weathers features ten songs of blistering no-frills hardcore that is impressive as hell.  Seriously, Ill Weathers is completely off the hook and will definitely scratch your hardcore itch.  Ill Weathers was released via Adagio 830 records on June 2nd, 2014.  As always this label does not disappoint.  Highly recommended!  Enjoy!  (manic compression)) 11.00

DANIEL BACHMANN - Orange Co. Serenade LP (bathetic - On Orange Co. Serenade, Bathetic’s first release from the rising guitar savant DANIEL BACHMAN, we’re introduced to a veritable landscape of winding guitar. Bachman treats his guitar lines and licks in a way that resembles the earth itself, at its most pristine, delicate, yet also primal and overpowering. Pieces move, ascending and descending in the same way that the clouds roll through blue skies, the same way brooks babble down rocky fronts carving their paths in the land. There’s a solemn, rustic tone to the album, in that it feels classic. It’s cinematic in the way it works, a lost soundtrack to some forgotten Terrence Malick or Win Wenders film. But, really, it’s so much more than that. It’s a beautiful record, not haunting and not engrossing, not overtly melancholic nor pretentious. It’s a record that lasts. Bachman knows his merits behind the guitar and he never falters. The record traverses the landscapes, falling in and out of terrains, but never losing sight of its purpose. It’s driving and immersive. Seldom does a record support such a variety of track titles that hit the nail on the head. You can read a title like “Coming Home” or “And Now I Am Born To Die” and when that guitar opens up and runs the course, you know fully you’re headed right where Bachman told you.) 17.00

DAN MELCHIOR UND DAS MENACE - Hunger LP (castle face - “The first time I heard Dan Melchior I felt betrayed that no one had turned my ear to his strange sounds before then. The LP was called Hello, I’m Dan Melchior and it starts with the line ‘I once did mushrooms with Björk
’ Goddamn, he had me at mushrooms. “Since then, I’ve been blessed with unearthing several of his masterpieces from LP bins all around the world. Dan has made mighty and copious marks upon the world of wax. Every record is a wade through the primordial poem-brain that is Dan Melchior’s creative force. “What we have here is a fabulous collection of classic Melchior und das Menace. We asked, he let us dig through the archive, and lo and behold: Hunger, a grip of unreleased Melchior gold. It will take less than ten seconds for the high to kick in after the rush of greasy guitars consume you at the get-go of ‘A Wizard Doesn’t Need a Computer.’ And yes, he’s taking the piss.) 16.00

THE DEAD SPACE - Faker LP (12xu - Who amongst us hasn’t pondered how good Joy Division might’ve been had they been recorded by Spot (NOT SPOT LONG OF TRAILER SPACE, ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?) instead of Martin Hannett? Don’t all raise your hands at once. OK, maybe I’m the only one that’s woken up in the middle of the night grappling with that particular “what if?” But I’ll bet I’m not not nearly the only person that’s about to be poleaxed by THE DEAD SPACE’’s long-awaited debut album, Faker. The trio of bassist/vocalist QUIN GALAVIS, guitarist GARRETT HADDEN and drummer JENNY ARTHUR have been honing their craft in Austin, TX since high school, but after a 7” on Hadden’s excellent Thread Pull label (Flesh Lights, Foreign Mothers), a song on the second Casual Victim Pile comp. (12XU, 2012) the moment is long overdue for The Dead Space to put-it-all-together. And that’s exactly what they’ve done—this is a band whose blend of tension, fragility and genuine muscle—certainly in the spirit of avowed influences like Joy Division, Bauhaus and Swans without being remotely copyist—has never been nearly this confident or incandescent. We’re a couple of years past The Dead Space making the good-to-great leap ; at present, they’re in the middle of that awkward period I like to call the “How Have You Assholes Slept On This Amazing Band?” Stage. And while the recent notoriety of their other projects might elevate The Dead Space’s profile a tad (ie. Galavis’ beautiful solo works or the heavier jams laid down with Nazi Gold, Hadden’s recent participation in Ghetto Ghouls), Faker’ Is The Real Deal. Like Evander Holyfield. Don’t be a fucking Charley Steiner.) 17.00

DEEP FREEZE MICE - Best Of 1979-1989 LP (night people - THE DEEP FREEZE MICE were an English post punk/weirdo, pop/DIY band from Leicester; they released ten albums between 1979 and 1989 on their own labels Mole Embalming and the still running Cordelia Records. The band also gained a bit of post existence notice by their inclusion on the Nurse With Wound list and through the Messthetics compilation series. The original lineup consisted of guitarist/vocalist ALAN JENKINS, bassist MICK BUNNAGE (THE STATICS), keyboardist SHERREE LAWRENCE, and drummer GRAHAM SUMMERS (also of The Statics), which remained intact until the release of the band's third record, The Gates of Lunch. After the departure of Summers and the acquisition of replacement PETE GREGORY, the lineup remained until their breakup in 1989. Leader Jenkins (who was also involved with the CHRYSTANTHEMUMS and RUTH’s REFRIGERATOR during the existence of Deep Freeze Mice) continued afterwards in the CREAMS and the THURSTON LAVA TUBE while maintaining Cordelia Records.  In origin, the Deep Freeze Mice started out in the informal, confidently scrappy mindset of the post punk era creating often upbeat goofy songs speaking to political topics, surrealist imagery, and science fiction. The most interesting thing about the band’s sound was a distinct approach to a kind of British classic rock sensibility with subtle flourishes of psychedelic ambiance which, when combined with their punky way of doing things, created a unique approach falling someplace between the ramshackle pop sound of The Television Personalities and Zappa style weirdoisms. This LP serves as a new release, a collection of the best of the Deep Freeze Mice. It was compiled by guitarist/vocalist Alan Jenkins.  Original Deep Freeze vinyl fetches high collector prices and we felt like a collection was necessary to re-introduce a long overlooked band whose material spanned many albums in such a diverse way. We hope you enjoy and appreciate The Deep Freeze Mice as much as we do and that this compilation provides a starting point to then look back into the band’s deep catalog.) 16.00

DEPRESSOR - filth / grace LP (fuck yoga - Apocalyptic deathcrust conceived midst the urban decay of Bay Area; expanding upon the machine-like dirges of early GODFLESH andPITCHSHIFTER with the socially aware attitude akin to AMEBIX and AXEGRINDER.
The "filth/grace" LP represent the earliest incarnation of DEPRESSOR, originally available as two home-dubbed cassettes- "filth" and "grace" (1995 and 1997, respectively)- available only in underground tape-trading circuits. This release sounds as vital as ever both due to the masterful songwriting skills and the true motives behind the songs.) 11.00

ERIC SIDAY - The Ultra Sonic Perception LP (dual planet - Considered to be one of the pioneers of Psychoacoustics, ERIC SIDAY is also acknowledged as a key name in the growth of 20th century electronic music. An important figure in the development of the Moog Synthesizer, Siday’s compositions were a testing ground for Bob Moog ideas, in turn shaping the technical advancement of the instrument. An early experimenter of Musique Concrete and extended technique, he inaugurated these concepts into the world of television scoring and advertising. Slightly predating Ron Grainer and Delia Derbyshire’s groundbreaking composition for the Doctor Who theme, he begun experimenting with electronics in soundtracks as early as 1960 carrying through to the 1970s where he created inspired electronic ‘sound logos’ for various entertainment companies such as CBS, ABC and Columbia. Pulling together a clutch of eerie atomic-age miniatures drawn from a series of rare 10” 78rpm library discs, this compilation explores Siday’s scientific study of sound, a concept he branded ‘The Ultra Sonic Perception’. Partially used as the soundtrack to the early 1960s Doctor Who TV series, this document is an amazing insight into the early electronic music used in television as well as a showcase of the pioneering techniques used by this forward thinking composer.) 29.00

FORM A LOG - for the record LP  (bathtoc - We reside on a planet, in a time, where it feels as though nearly every avenue, artistically, has been explored. But every now and again, and artist or group of artists comes along and shakes things up, breaks in new ground, and allows a different view of the art at hand. FORM A LOG’s members’ (REN SCHOFIELD, NOAH ANTHONY and RICK WEAVER) projects, such as GOD WILLING, CONTAINER, PROLIFIGATE, THE NEW FISH and DINNER MUSIC have been highly revered over the years for their ability to stand out from the crowd. Form A Log is no exception, and takes the member’s abilities to carve their own niche to the next level. Form A Log doesn’t come across like they’re developing a certain brand, instead they make moves more akin to forefathers Captain Beefheart, Butthole Surfers, or even Kraftwerk; fearlessly making imaginative music that soars above classification. Form A Log‘s debut album for Bathetic isn’t something that can be casually explained, it’s more for the listener to delve into and explore in their own headspace.) 17.00

GARMENT DISTRICT - If You Take Your Magic Slow LP (night people - If You Take Your Magic Slow is the debut full-length LP from multi-instrumentalist JENNIFER BARON’s THE GARMENT DISTRICT, with help from a few friends and family—her cousin LUCY BLEHAR provides lead vocals throughout. If You Take Your Magic Slow is very much a structured album with its diverse track list meticulously strung together. A mix of surreal instrumentals and subtle turns conjures outdoor walks in transitional atmospheres and landscapes, nature hikes in the city, sunny days that are okay with becoming cloudy, warm music full of feeling that remains comfortably easy-going despite the meticulous care given to its sophisticated orchestration and arrangements. This eclecticism creates something complex yet accessible, loose but direct. Baron mixes pastoral psychedelia with artful minimalist post-punk experimentation and a subtle approach to library music, soundtracks as “pop,” with just enough droney dreamy color to fill it all in. If You Take Your Magic Slow doesn’t follow any templates or gimmicks: its focus is on being true to its musicality, songwriting, and honest approach to compelling contemporary easy listening—something we are quite fond of. A perfect summertime record. Edition of 400 copies.) 16.00

GAS CHAMBER - Hemorrhaging Light LP + 7" flexi (iron lung - Buffalo hardcore has always made a significant yet largely misunderstood contribution to the furthering of musical mastery. And Hemorrhaging Light is no exception. With the same 7 notes that everyone else uses, GAS CHAMBER have managed to completely turn mere punk music into a tense, trans-formative journey. Very rarely in punk do we get to have a complete life shift in the space of one album. This is incredible music. Sounds by JOHN ANGELO. Art by CRAIG SHEPERD. 500 copies on black vinyl housed in a heavy duty reverse board jacket with a bonus 7-inch flexi disc and download.) 16.00

GUY SKORNIK - Pour Pauwels LP (lion - NOW AVAILABLE ON VINYL!!! Between 1970 and 1973, EMI/PathĂ© released several ambitious and progressive pop albums: La Mort D’Orion (GĂ©rard Manset), Puzzle (Michel Berger), Hathor (Igor WakĂ©vitch), and Pour Pauwels by GUY SKORNIK. Skornik was a mystic explorer, psychonaut, and gifted musician, who was immersed in the metaphysical revolutions of his time. He presented television reports, laced with elements of Eastern mysticism, on LSD experiences. And then there was Skornik's album, Pour Pauwells, inspired by the revolutionary writings of Louis Pauwells, one-time counterculture hero and disciple of esoteric spiritualist G. I. Gurdjieff. LP pressed on 180-gram vinyl in an edition of 500 copies with four-panel insert.) 22.00

JAMES BLACKSHAW - fantomas: le faux magistrat 2xLP (tompkins - In celebration of the centenary of Louis Feuillade’s FantĂŽmas silent film series, James Blackshaw was invited by Yann Tiersen to perform a live score to the fifth and final film, Le Faux Magistrat, at the beautiful and prestigious surroundings of the Théùtre de ChĂątelet, Paris on October 31st 2013. FantĂŽmas – a master of disguise and symbol of terror – is one of the most popular characters in French crime fiction, as well as a favourite with the avant-garde, particularly the surrealists. Tim Hecker, Amiina, Yann Tiersen and Loney Dear also performed during the event (which was broadcast live on the European ARTE channel) each bringing their own unique sonic perspective to the other installments in the series. Written during the course of a few months, Blackshaw drew influences from French impressionist composers, Brazillian guitar music, musique concrete and the works of other film composer such as David Shire and Pino Donaggio, to create a noirish score that is in turns sinister, quietly profound and thrilling.) 29.00

LEONG LAU - That Rongeng Sound LP (left ear - Until recently LEONG LAU’s records of the 1970s were well kept secrets of only the most avid Australian record collectors. Left Ear Records, along with the help of Leong, are proud to give collectors a chance to add That Rongeng Sound to their collection. Leong’s unique Malay-jazz-meets-Aus-funk identity, takes listeners on a journey through funky beats and flowing melodies and is the reason the album is arguably one of the most innovative and exciting Australian funk/jazz albums. This reissue of the original 1977 LP is limited to just 500 copies and comes in a high quality tip on gatefold featuring original artwork and a brief biography on the enigma himself—Leong Lau.) 28.00

MAMALEEK - He Never Spoke A Mumblin’ Word LP (flesner - He Never Spoke a Mumblin’ Word is the fourth full-length from electronic black metal band Mamaleek. Mixed by Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Botanist, Wreck & Reference), the album follows sought-after releases on Furusiyya and Enemies List Home Recordings. The San Francisco-based duo is comprised of two anonymous brothers. “This record marks an end as much as a beginning. While much more was recorded during this time, these four spirituals seem to form a coherence lacking on previous escapades. We are grateful to have this released, casting off the burdens of the past that, try as we might to escape, haunt the soul in a strange fashion.”  “San Francisco-based Mamaleek achieved a tense hybrid of black-metal frenzy, industrial syncopation, shoegazing distortion and dark ambience on Mamaleek (2008), notably the 18-minute ‘Shout On Children,’ and on the jazzier and denser Fever Dream (Furusiyya Recordings, 2008).” —Piero Scaruffi “The duo—a pair of brothers who prefer to keep their identities a secret—mix Middle Eastern song structures and samples, atonal experimental and avant-garde accents, guttural black metal howls, accessible electronic breakbeats, sludgy doom metal guitar-work, nimble piano interludes, and plenty of pop panache to create an unrelenting, moving sound.” —Forbes) 18.00

MBB - Mac Blackout Band LP (pelican pow pow - For the uninitiated, the best way we can explain MBB is that they should have been the band playing in that boardwalk scene in Lost Boys, instead of the oily saxed up beefcake. For those in the know, yes, this is MAC BLACKOUT’s (MICKEY, DAILY VOID and THE FUNCTIONAL BLAKCOUTS) newest band. He is back in the glam punk game. This LP is full of screams, synths, and shredding solos. Everything you could want from this master of modern punk. Edition of 300 copies with 2-color risograph poster.) 17.00

MIKE REP AND FRIENDS - Darby Creek Drifter LP (540 - The name MIKE “REP” HUMMEL means many things to different people. Many equate Rep with ‘70s "Proto-Punk", ‘80'"D.I.Y." or a pioneering founder of ‘90s "Lo-Fi" (Rep prefers the term "Mega-Fi" himself). Along with his bands MIKE REP & THE QUOTAS and the seminal (Ohio) TRUE BELIEVERS, he was also a a cohort in the ‘90s Columbus "supergroup" EGO SUMMIT among a plethera of other Ohio band involvements. Also known for recording and/or mixing ("Lovingly Fucking With") such bands of note as Guided By Voices, Times New Viking, Jim Shepard, The Gibson Brothers, Strapping Fields Hands, Mount Carmel and dozens of others, mostly in their formative garage/basement incarnations. "I prefer deflowering to retooling. Both present worthwhile challenges but working with virgin talent won't get you an STD" he once infamously said. Still others remember him for his groundbreaking Columbus Ohio homegrown label New Age Records (named before there was such a thing as New Age music) which evolved into the ‘80s/’90s cassette pioneering signpost to new space OldAge/NO Age label through the ‘90s. And so the name Mike Rep Hummel has a polarizing effect on many who either admire or deride his body of work. Hummel's new record Darby Creek Drifter is one that is sure to draw the line even deeper into the sand. Rep sez; "As my pal Bob Pollard" once quipped, "this does not rock". But it rolls baby, it rolls.) 17.00

REIGNING SOUND - Shattered LP (merge - Shattered is REIGNING SOUND’s first album for Merge and the first full LP by the group since 2009’s Love and Curses. The band’s principal songwriter/member is GREG CARTWRIGHT, who’s been leading the shifting cast of characters since 2001. You may be familiar with some of the band’s work, as this album is preceded by five studio efforts as well as numerous EPs and live records. Or perhaps some of Greg’s other projects have been on your musical radar: THE OBLIVIANS, PARTING GIFTS, COMPULSIVE GAMBLERS, ‘68 COMEBACK, DEADLY SNAKES, DETROIT COBRAS. Regardless, as far as Reigning Sound is concerned, this is as good a place to start as any because through many line-up changes and mood swings, the central, constant feature is the way Greg writes songs.  This particular embodiment of the band includes longtime keyboardist DAVE AMELS, who joined the band seven years ago when Reigning Sound recorded an album, consisting mostly of Cartwright’s songs, with former Shangri-Las lead singer Mary Weiss. Dave proved to be key in putting together the current line-up as well. About three years ago, Greg was asked to make a promotional EP for Scion. Recordings were set to take place in Nashville where he had lined up two local friends to round out the band, but as fate would have it, both had to bow out at the last minute. Luckily, MIKE CATANESE, BENNY TROKAN and MIKEY POSTt—Dave Amels’ bandmates in Brooklyn soul group THE JAY VONS—were up for the task. The four flew to Nashville, learned the songs, and recorded them with Greg in a couple of days. Thus was born the group that you hear on Shattered. They’ve been touring and playing together ever since, and Shattered proves that the musical union is both exciting and consistent for fans of Cartwright’s songwriting. The album was recorded at Daptone’s Brooklyn studio (where drummer) 18.00

RAMMA LAMMA - Ice Cream LP (certified pr - Rocketing forth from the neon-Blatz-sign jungle of Milwaukee with the power of a trillion Pinky Tuscaderos, RAMMA LAMMA adds several dozen gratuitous exclamation points to your summer with the release of their debut long-player, Ice Cream! Transporting you via guitar to a magical universe full of round lightbulbs where the boys wear stripes, the girls wear Creem Boy Howdy t-shirts, and pretty much nobody wears pants, Ramma Lamma turn it the fuck up and blitz through a ten-pack of fast-paced rock ‘n’ roll anthems that will jar awake the ACTION! centers in the reptilian forebrains of even the most droopy-lidded rock codgers! Drawing strength and impurity from a wide swath of Rock’s Glorious Pantheon—90’s garage ruckus like the Bobbyteens meets 70’s era Chapman/Chinn junkshop meets the Rezillos and Buzzcocks and everybody gets drunk, stoned and laid ((in a half hour, yet!))—Ramma Lamma haul you by the belt loops ((see, you shouldn’tve been wearing pants!)) into a jellybean-colored world of fine-lookin’ women eating ice cream, fine-lookin’ boys performing unmentionable acts of depravity at a high skill level, wet denim, wet denim, w-w-w-w-w-wet denim, and -- not at all surprisingly—rock ‘n’ roll. It’s a land where the Nervous Eaters teach grade school! A land where Girlschool are the police force! A land of perpetual horniness where Grand Funk and the Guess Who once settled their differences with a Bat-Fight! Party poopers are thrown swiftly and unceremoniously from Ramma Lamma’s speeding Durango 95 of rock ‘n’ roll; the worthy are in for the ride of their lives. Ice Cream: One of the few works of human genius that actually leaves the listener about twenty IQ points dumber for having experienced it! Lick it before it licks you back!"—Rev. Norb Rozek. Packaged with double-sided inser) 16.00

SETE STAR SEPT - sacrifice LP (fuck yoga - The second album of SETE STAR SEPT is a rapturous evidence of the non-preventable evolution of noise. It is elusive to the shape of grindcore, yet profoundly rooted in its motive. Upgrading the inhuman technical performance and exploiting spiritual sickness, SETE STAR SEPT have recorded an album that while having little reference to traditional form, represents an undisputed masterpiece of extreme music. Grinding noise of the highest order for the mentally bankrupt.) 11.00
SEVERED HEADS - Dead Eyes Opened 12" (dark entries - Severed Heads are one of the longest standing bands to have emerged from the Australian post-punk and experimental scene. They began in Sydney in 1979, and were an early outfit to incorporate elements of industrial noise-generation, tape-cutting and looping, and electronic sound synthesis. As the project developed, song-structures and vocals were employed in a more-or-less recognizable mutant electro pop style. After many lineup changes featuring Gary Bradbury and psychedelic guitarist Simon Knuckey, the project became the solo vehicle for composer Tom Ellard.  In 1983 Severed Heads released a C-60 cassette called Since the Accident that grabbed the attention of Ink Records, a subsidiary of Virgin in the UK. Ellard added a throwaway track at the last minute to fill out the cassette, not wanting to leave an unseemly gap at the end. The song, “Dead Eyes Opened,” was catchy enough to get a lot of airplay on the main noncommercial radio station in Sydney, and the band was asked to make it into a 12-inch single. For this extended version, Ellard and producer Patrick Gibson went to M-Squared studio and passed the multi-tracked recordings through various EQs and delays. “Dead Eyes Opened” features samples from a radio program narrated by Edgar Lustgarten, a crime journalist from England, referencing a double-murder case that occurred in 1924. The rhythms are made by a TR-808 drum machine and an SH-1 synthesizer. A KORG PolySix was used for strings and additional atmospheric elements. The lead solo was a Casiotone run through an Octaver foot pedal. On the B-side are two solo compositions, “Bullet” and “Mount,” that Ellard recorded at Terse Tapes in 1982.) 14.00
STEVE ADAMYK BAND - Dial Tone LP (dirtnap - Ottawa’s STEVE ADAMYK BAND returns with their 4th LP (released barely a year since the last one), Dial Tone, and it’s their best yet! For this release, SAB travelled to Oakland, CA to record with MATTHEW MELTON of Warm Soda/Bare Wires fame. Melton grew up in Memphis and that influence definitely shows on Dial Tone. While still plenty fast and catchy, Dial Tone shows the band dialing (ha!)  back a little on the break-neck punk/pop tempos of previous releases, with increasing nods to classic rock n’ roll form. If 2011’s Forever Won’t Wait was their “pop” album, and 2013’s Third was their “punk” album, let’s call this one their “garage” rock masterpiece! Features guest appearances from Matthew Melton and the PRIMITIVE HEARTS DANIELLE AGNEW.) 15.00

SUBTILE TURNHIPS - Redhair With Some LP (homeless - The French punk-garage-rock scene the past decade has seen some standout acts emerge such as Cheveu, Frustration, The Feeling of Love, Dimi Dero and more. Add the oddly-named SUBTLE TURNHIPS to this pile, as their fifth album—Redhair With Some—is proudly brought to you by Australia’s Homeless Records. The lack of hair on our Homeless head helped our hearing (try saying that rapidly 10 times)—not that we needed an aid to decide whether to release Redhair With Some—we’ve been a fan since hearing Terd Album (Hozac, 2010) and Meal (Pouet! Schallplatten, 2013) and immediately loved the rough cuts we were sent. Recruiting recording ace MIKEY YOUNG to mix the album brought a fresh new set of ears to the Turnhips sound, and another instant fan, hell we even hear some Eddy Current Suppression Ring-style guitar work in “Eileen.” Some have stated they hear Swell Maps or Pink Flag-era Wire in the Subtle Turnhips influences, whilst others have noted The Fall or even the destructionism of Brainbombs. Pressed in an edition of 350 copies in gatefold jackets with download.) 18.00

UNITED WATERS - Sunburner LP (bathtic - As we here at Bathetic Records have been uber-fans of the massive MOUTHUS for years, it comes with great pride to release this record from UNITED WATERS, headed up by BRIAN SULLIVAN and rounded out by CHRIS SHIELDS and PATRICK COLE. While this is a quieter, more subtle beast than Mouthus, there’s still the same type of burned, frayed energy at work here. What this record is is a unique brand of challenging psychedelia, equal parts pop and cement truck. Each track is approached with a true-blue pop styling, melodic vocals, hooky guitar licks
but when filtered through the gray and tan haze, it comes out warped and warbled, drifting at its own accord. It’s always hard to compare artists to other artists, and the act of doing so is always a little silly, but people like having reference points
The way United Waters works, it’s almost if you took a Kurt Vile, The Dead C, and Grouper and locked them all in a room full of incense smoke and Old Style and said “do the damn thing.” A burner collage of loner riffs, detached vocals, and meandering beats comes forth. When it all links up, wraps around each other, and flow from the speakers. Received a 7.7 rating from Pitchfork.) 17.00

VILKACIS   -   T h e   F e v e r   O f   W a r   1 2“ (psychic violence – bakc in stock - Vilkacis is the solo project of M. Rekeviks of Fell Voices, this new release takes everything you know from that band and strips it back to the bare essentials of the genre. While others perhaps approach the black metal genre with a more modern style and others take a more atmospheric or punk energy and use it, this is primal, bleak, and absolutely nihilistic. Up there with those classic Darkthrone and Ulver records, at times it could appear to be just another exercise in minimalism but will be a favorite of those who prefer it over all the highly-produced records released in the last decade.) 15.00

WHITE WARDS - Cigarette Burns LP (iron lung - Continuing in Olympia's tradition of haphazard mangling, WHITE WARDS have finally managed to record a proper LP and it is one mean motherfucker. It's a gritty, nasty Mecht Mensch doing push ups in the Jan's Rooms basement. US hardcore played the way it ought to be. Ugly. Art and sounds by JAKE DUDLEY. 700 copies will grace the planet packaged in high quality materials made in the United States of America. Includes a download.) 14.00

WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM - Celestite DLP (Since 2002, over the course of four studio albums and hundreds of live performances, Wolves in the Throne Room have refracted the transcendent and mythic aspects of black metal through their own idiosyncratic Cascadian prism, creating music intimately linked to the wild lands of the Pacific Northwest.
Celestite embarks on a deeper excursion into the crystalline, synthesizer-driven domains that have long intrigued the band. With the aid of producer Randall Dunn (Earth, SUNNO))), Master Musicians of Bukkake), the band unearths a hidden soundscape only loosely tethered to their familiar sound, yet still unmistakably the work of Wolves in the Throne Room. As the album unfolds, an ocean-deep psychedelic soundscape coalesces, and a portal opens to the hidden world of magic only accessble through dreams, visions and music. Celestite is the inaugural release on Wolves in the Throne Room’s new label, Artemisia Records.) 25.00

XYMOX - Subsequent Pleasures LP (dark entries - Xymox was founded in 1983 in Nijmegen, a city in the east of the Netherlands, by Ronny Moorings (vocals, guitars, synthesizers) and Anka Wolbert (vocals, bass). In April of that year, Moorings bought a TEAC 144 four-track tape recorder and the duo moved to Amsterdam; they began to record songs using a Yamaha CS-15, Korg MS-10 and MS-20, a BOSS Dr. Rhythm DR-550, guitar and effects pedals. First layering the drone-like tones of monophonic synthesizers over tape loops and rhythm tracks, the pair recorded guitar and bass without the use of computers. The five-song Subsequent Pleasures EP was released in 1984 and limited to 500 vinyl copies, serving as a precursor to the dark wave sounds they would champion on their self-titled debut on 4AD the following year. Also of note, the track “Muscovite Musquito” was later re-recorded for the compilation album Lonely Is an Eyesore released by 4AD in 1987.  All songs have been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The jackets have been silk-screened with pink and grey paint, using the original plates Wolbert created in 1984, and each copy includes a foldout pink newsprint poster with never-before-seen photos of the band, lyrics and liner notes by Wolbert and Moorings. See the colors and waves in this deluxe 30th anniversary edition of a classic piece of Dutch history, highly sought after by collectors.) 17.00

YOLKS - Kings Of Awesome LP (rand y- THE YOLKS are a rock n roll band, pure and simple—nothing more, nothing less. Their purpose since their inception over eight years ago, has always been to be the greatest band they could be, and inspire everyone who witnessed them to dance, scream, spill beer, makeout with each other, act a fool, and otherwise have some fucking fun. This album, like their live set, is broken into two distinct parts.  On side A they play simple, catchy garage pop/punk songs a la The Ramones, The Gizmos, or Nobunny, with an emphasis on good songwriting and memorable hooks. Side B represents the second half of a live Yolks set, in which they bring out a Hammond organ, and morph into the greatest soul/rhythm and blues/frat rock band around. This half of the set is full of blues progressions, cover songs, instrumentals – anything that will turn the part out. And on side B of this album we get two ripping instrumentals a la Booker T and the MGs, as well as a recording of their truly killer version of Ray Charles’ “What’d I Say” that has never failed to absolutely lay waste to all those who have witnessed it live. Standing alone, either of these two facets of The Yolks would be amazing. Taken together, these two halves make The Yolks truly incredible and set them apart any of the other band currently playing rock n roll. Buy this record, put it on your turntable, and see for yourself why The Yolks truly are THE KINGS OF AWESOME!!!) 17.00
