ALLO DARLIN' - bright eyes 7" (fortuna - The first single to be taken from Allo Darlin’s forthcoming album We Come From the Same Place, "Bright Eyes" is a hugely enjoyable duet between singer Elizabeth Morris and guitarist Paul Rains - his first recorded lead vocal performance. Recording their vocals simultaneously in the live room of the studio, the two were able to play off one another and capture the humour and affection inherent in the song's lyrics. "Bright Eyes" isn't the first duet the band have recorded, early single "Dreaming" featured Monster Bobby of The Pipettes trading lines with Elizabeth, but as she notes, that then poses its own problems when it comes to playing live. "I wanted to write another duet, but the only problem with doing that is that when you play live it's very rare that the person you recorded it with can be there. So I thought it would be great to write a song with Paul singing the other part. I love Paul's singing and I wanted to hear him do it more, so it's quite selfish really!") 8.00
AUSMUTEANTS - fed through a tube 7" (total punk - AUSMUTEANTS are four Geelong goons who lie compulsively, have a bad sense of humor, and probably crack up whenever negative things are written about them on the internet. My kind of guys and an obvious fit for TOTAL PUNK. Over the last two years they have been putting out record after record of hook filled punk jams of the devolved variety, and the new single is no exception. The A-side "Fed Through a Tube" is a slightly jerky punk ripper about being too lazy to chew your own food that would make Terri Schaivo proud. On the flip side "Arguements" they slow things down a bit add a catchy synth line and sing about the joys of being disagreeable. Oh yeah and did I mention they feature members of Poison? 100% TOTAL PUNK and not long for this world.) 6.50
CHERRY GLAZERR - had 10 dollaz 7" (Any discussion of Cherry Glazerr is going to have a few obvious bullet points. First and foremost, the band is astonishingly young, with frontwoman/guitarist Clementine Creevy and drummer Hannah Uribe still not old enough to vote and bassist Sean Redman just barely above the drinking age. And then there’s the fact that the band’s debut cassette was released by California’s current kings of DIY power pop and garage rock, Burger Records. So even if you know nothing else about the LA trio, you know that they’re young and that they’re a part of the thriving underground community of stripped-down jubilant rock n’ roll. But if you’re envisioning a bunch of awkward, hyperactive kids bouncing around in their parent’s basement, consider the fact that the band has been championed and photographed by French fashion designer Hedi Slimane of Saint Laurent Paris. Slimane even commissioned the band to score his fall/winter 2014 Paris show. The result was “Had Ten Dollaz”, a song that captures Cherry Glazerr’s knack for dualities: sultry and virulent, sophisticated and casual, laid back and bombastic, playful and deliberate. Suicide Squeeze Records is pairing up “Had Ten Dollaz” with the equally intoxicating b-side “Nurse Ratched” as a limited edition 7”.) 7.00
CRUCIFIED - dead of sleep 7" (The previously unreleased fourth release from San Francisco natives, Crucified.) 6.00
FLAGELLANT - illumination 7" (limited to 330 copies! The artist describes it as following:
''A purely instrumental lo-fi amalgam of Ambient, Black Metal and Postpunk. Real, yet damped drumming fosters the droning synth- and guitarlines, evoking the reminiscence of a post-apocalyptic terrain both haunted and peaceful.'') 5.00
LONGEST WAR - same 7" (pressgang - The debut 5 song EP. Features members of CHOKEHOLD, DESPAIR, UNION AND ACHILLES.) 5.00
SELF DEFENSE FAMILY - Indoor Wind Chimes b/w Cottaging 7" (deathwish – This is the third installment of Self Defense Family's "Island Series" of recordings. With this release, vocalist/lyricist Patrick Kindlon and company continue down their seemingly limitless creative road. Without a doubt, this is another stellar release from one of today's most prolific underground bands. 7" includes digital download.) 5.00
STERILIZED - STERILIZED Chemical Dust 7" (video disease - The English may have invented it, but as always, the Americans perfected it. Blazing, brutal, USHC-influenced D-beat from Olympia, WA. Four songs of in-your-face P-E-R-F-E-C-T-I-O-N. Every record comes in a custom, D-beat style sleeve and on illustrious white vinyl. Released simultaneously along with a 7" on the almighty Warthog Speak label.) 6.00

LUCRECIA DALT - s/t 10" (other people - Following and expanding upon the line of thought put forward in her 2013 album Syzygy, Lucrecia Dalt ends in a place familiar, yet noticeably different on her new EP. Its two tracks, Esotro and Veta, continually defy expectation, haunting vocal ballads that trickle into clouds of white noise, but for an acquainted listener that wont surprise.) 12.00
LP
THE ADVERTS - crossing the sea with the adverts DLP (fire - "One of the greatest punk records of all time" Fire Records reissue the 1978 classic debut punk record 'Crossing The Red Sea with the Adverts'. Released after an ever growing live following and the string of successful chart hits The Advert's debut has cemented its place in punk rock history. Reworked into the familiar Fire package by John foster the record will be available on CD and LP, both with the extra single and live bonus tracks.
From the sonic Armageddon which ushers in 'One Chord Wonders' through to the deliriously protracted fade of 'Great British Mistake', 'Crossing The Red Sea' never put a foot wrong. Created at the height of Punk, recorded with all the venom and passion which gave the era such vitality, "Crossing the Red Sea" was at once a statement of intent and a bellow of defiance, a refusal to take anything for granted, even its own brilliance. More than that, though, the album defined and thus became the precious moment in time when the establishment rules of rock fell away, and new ones still had to be carved out. And by those brittle standards, the Adverts weren't simply crossing the Red Sea, They were parting it.) 25.00
AND YOU WILL KNOW US BY THE TRAIL OF DEAD - IX LP + CD (century - ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, band that began 20 years ago by two childhood friends is set to release their ninth full length studio album, IX, on Richter Scale/Superball Music. Currently, Jason and Autry are based in Austin, TX, Conrad is based in Cambodia and Jamie lives in LA.) 18.00
AS WE DRAW - mirages DLP (throatruine r- "«Mirages» is the outstanding second full-length from french powerhouse AS WE DRAW. Pursuing their will of constant evolution since 2009, these Laval natives have imposed their unique take on post-metal and noisy hardcore, crafted through ambitious songwriting and disarming live performances. Three years in the making, the follow-up to 2010's «Lines Breaking Circles» shows a band decided to challenge themselves as much as the listener (if not even more), out of every sub-genres conventions and commonplaces. As a proof, the album starts with the longest track ever wrote by the band. The ten-minutes mudslide that is "The Window" flows from eerie and intricate melodies to overwhelming parts, before descending into an unreal, glacial ending. This record is the culmination of the power trio's hard-earned mastery, where dense and nervous tracks ("Blackmail", "Denial") stand alongside richly atmospheric and massive soundscapes ("Shipwreck", "Fata Morgana"). Engineered and mixed at La Senelle by their drummer Amaury Sauvé, mastered by Magnus Lindberg, and lyrically exploring the theme of paranoïa seen through different eyes, «Mirages» is destined to remain an awe-inspiring piece of dark and forward-thinking heavy music.") 16.00
AT THE GATES - at war with reality LP (century media - With the classic line-up of their latest masterpiece, "Slaughter Of The Soul" (1995), AT THE GATES recorded "At War With Reality" with Fredrik Nordström at Studio Fredman (In Flames, Arch Enemy, Dimmu Borgir) and mixed with Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios (Opeth, Amon Amarth, Kreator). Never compromising their vision, this is an album that once again captures the honesty and integrity that has defined AT THE GATES, making them one of the most significant extreme metal names of the past 25 years!) 19.00
ATRIARCH - An Unending Pathway LP (relapse - Much has been said about fear and its relationship with the human condition: as an emotion, a tool, a weapon, etc. The most effective aspect of fear is dread. Whether it’s the hair standing up on the back of your neck, a pit in the bottom of your innards, or just an overwhelming sense of unease driving you mad, those moments of unknowing are scarier than any evil clown or hellbeast some other guy dreamt up. Dread is also the blackened lifeblood that courses through An Unending Pathway, elevating Portland doom crew Atriarch into the underground metal elite. 2013 saw In Solitude triumph with their third album, Sister, an amalgamation of influences that could have been an unfocused mess in lesser hands. Atriarch follows a similar trajectory and shares some musical tastes as well. Lead track “Entropy” morphs from creeping whispers and chants to deathrock vocals and an immediately catchy guitar line. “Collapse” continues the theme with rumbling bass lines and droning, open notes. That drone encapsulates the previously mentioned sense of dread permeating Pathway. Where some (okay, most) “drone” metal bands fail is at the line between repetition and boredom. Atriarch never play their hand too long, focusing on an entrancing movement until the breaking point then laying waste with frostbitten breakdowns. It’s equivalent to a horror film heroine shambling away when the entire audience knows the killer isn’t dead yet. There are some ventures outside the proverbial Dead Zone; “Bereavement” is an absolutely ripping swath of pure metal, with drummer Maxamillion alternating effortlessly between black metal blast beats and Mental Funeral-style dirges. The last several tracks blur together, which is a positive thing here. They have an ebb and flow, dark to extra dark, which makes for seamless connections between them. The final track, “Veil,” puts it all on the table: marauding riffs, tortured vocal incantations, and an overall sense of crush that exists in an alternate universe where getting your head crumpled in a vice is orgasmic. An Unending Pathway is mandatory Halloween listening and one of the last great albums of 2014.) 17.00
COOLY G - wait 'til night LP (hyper dub - Cooly G returns with ‘Wait 'Til Night’, an album of sensitive, lo-fi bedroom music, its lyrics sketching dreamy scenarios of seduction, lust and sex. The moody South London house of her debut album 'Playin Me' and her DJ sets has given way to a near-horizontal, sometimes melancholy and highly original take on R&B. The tracks swing effortlessly with no-fuss musical arrangements that are filtered through reggae sound system culture and US R&B in equal amounts, with a slight hint of dark synth-pop wound throughout. The pace has come down from the deep, tribal house she's known for so far, with the only constants that run through the album - her intimate vocals and smokey synths - cross-hatched with her characteristic broken rhythmic sense.) 17.00
DEAN BLUNT - black metal DLP (rough trade - The mercurial Mr. Blunt keeps everyone guessing with the 'Black Metal' follow-up to his widely acclaimed LP, 'The Redeemer' (2013). Let's get it out of the way: it's not black metal, in the cold, Northerly sense, at least. Musically, its palette actually bears more resemblance to early Factory or Rough Trade records by The Durutti Column or Scritti Politti - or even Serge Gainsbourg - than anything remotely connected to Bathory or Burzum. And taken in light of his oeuvre, both with Hype Williams and solo, it's actually a canny appropriation of the term, subverting pre-conceived and connoted ideas of genre, race, and sub-culture on their tired heads. The production is unfussy, dry and lo-fi - probably meaning basic Ableton or GarageBand nowadays rather than 4-track tape and guitars - but by no means limited to any one sound or bank of sounds: across 13 tracks in 53 minutes he touches on string swept pop-soul, dust bowl panoramas, synth music, dub and noise with equally profuse and diffuse results. Alongside previous single tracks, '50 Cent', 'Mersh' and 'Grade', there's big highlights in the hushed duet, 'Molly & Aquafina', the drifting 13-minute centre-piece 'Forever', and the Badalamenti-esque 'X', but they're all part of a unified body which needs to be explored in its entirety.) 26.00
FANGE - poisse LP (blown out, dark, dirty, fuzzy and sludgey style of music that draws inspiration from a variety of sources of underground music including hardcore, punk, sludge, and noise rock. Fange is comprised of members of Huata, which definitely explains Fange's sheer heaviness. The band's sound features downtuned and blown out guitars, sludgey basslines, and heavy drum beats. Musically, Fange can be said to be influenced by bands such as Eyehategod and Buzzoven. Fange can be loosely compared to bands such as Primitive Man and Seven Sisters Of Sleep, and Vermin Womb. Poisse is the band's debut six track 12". Overall, Poisse makes for a devastating and insanely heavy listen. Hope your speakers can stand up to the heaviness.) 11.00
FÒRN - the departure of consciousness LP (vendetta – repressed - FÒRN formed in the winter of 2012 in boston, ma, Fórn draws inspiration from its predecessors; Grief, Burning Witch and Asunder, while remaining true to natural progression. Blown low end, and gritty leads make Fórn one of the leading sludge bands currently in Boston. deep, suffocating doom. That seductive melody becomes a crushingly heavy dirge, though no less seductive — this misery is mesmerizing. And the vocals, they sound like sulphuric acid eating through steel, or like some shrieking poltergeist that has become your companion for this slow fall into the void. mastered at audiosiege artwork done by Clovenhoov of Natvres Mortes Illvstration) 11.00

HOUNDS OF HATE - hate springs eternal LP (assault - Hounds Of Hate is a four piece straightedge - hardcore/punk band from Braddock, Pennsylvania who formed in 2010. They play a stripped down, no-frills, and venomous style of hardcore/punk with a strong 80's Boston vibe; This is the band's second LP and these ten songs make for a phenomenal listen. Hounds Of Hate is an absolute must listen for fans of Creem, The Boston Strangler, Prisoner Abuse, and Omegas.) 11.00
J FERNANDEZ - memorize now LP (atelier - Having migrated to Chicago for a job with the Rand McNally map company in the early aughts, J, or Justin, spent his following years playing in friends’ projects in Chicago’s active DIY scene. In his own time, he was mapping out out a series of personal recordings in his rudimentary home studio, it was these recordings that would develop into the first EP, Olympic Village. Though somewhat crudely recorded (the lively Puerto Rican festivals of his adopted Humboldt Park neighborhood made cause for some creative EQ tinkering), that EP and its follow-up, No Luck, both showed undeniable songwriting prowess, and were released by Chicago-based labels Teen River and Lake Paradise. The resulting response that ensued from these releases earned diverse comparisons ranging from Stereolab to Syd Barrett to a young Robyn Hitchcock, while also earning some gentle jibes from his peers asking if he ever left his apartment after having been labeled a ”bedroom pop artist”. With many tracks built around the dense all-or-nothing sibilation of a Vox Jaguar organ, J Fernandez’s creations resonate deep into the inner ear, distorting sense of time and place but feeling relatable and familiar all the same. While "nostalgia" is a comfortable word to describe these tunes, not all pop music has to fall into that blasé carefree zone. In fact, that might undermine not only Fernandez's craft, but also the amount of self-conscious awareness that makes his compositions so reflective and true. His latest offering, Memorize Now, extends and refines the compact retro-futuristic pop ideas of No Luck, whilst again being recorded in his home above a stained glass studio and with Fernandez again playing the majority of instruments heard in the recordings, it gives new life to the horns, vintage organs, tape delay and bright guitar of his previous releases with some of his most confident songwriting and production to date. Grounded by the pensive "Image" and "Close Your Eyes", the EP lifts off on the interlocking Radiophonic loops and arpeggios of "Failed Scales" and demure funk of "Cosmic Was". Behind all of it, a loose but metronomically precise rhythm section maintains an air of effortless cool. Sounding fresh and new while mining the annals of early electronic pop and psychedelia, Memorize Now manages to pack a long-player's share of ideas into an economical 16 minutes.) 15.00
KIASMOS - s/t DLP (erased tapes - Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen's Kiamos duo follow their 2012 debut 12" with a fully fledged LP of posh dance music. Both artists approach the project from similar angles, marrying mutual taste for mnml tech-house rhythms with more mannered neo-classical sensibilities. It includes the previous single track, 'Thrown' plus seven new compositions, at best in the elegant swing of 'Swayed' and the melancholic electro-house shuffle of 'Bent'. "“We decided to start almost completely over with this record, so most of the material is written this year with the idea of making a record that can stand as one piece rather than a collection of songs. I am very excited to get a proper record out exploring a different territory than I am used to. I touch a lot on electronic genres in my own music but never have the opportunity to go full out electronic like we do here.” – Ólafur Arnalds. “The Kiasmos project has been around since 2009, but because of all our other projects we never really got the time to sit down and write all the tracks we always wanted to. So when we early this year finally found the time to sit down and make a full length album there was so much we wanted to try out. The result surprised us a bit, it's deeper and more emotional than we imagined it to be, but that's the beauty of being able to make an album.”) 26.00
KOJI - Some Small Way LP (run for cover - Before Crooked In My Mind, and splits with Into It. Over It. and La Dispute, there was Some Small Way – Koji’s first recorded material with a backing band, and a stand-out release in his still growing catalog. This EP, initially released on CD by Boston’s Run For Cover Records followed a pair of self-released acoustic 7”s, CD-Rs, and a live disc, and found Koji embracing the upbeat indie-rock of Superchunk and Ted Leo over the quiet acoustics of his past releases. Over the course of Some Small Way’s five tracks, Koji's penchant for dynamic song-writing and engrossing lyrical content was fully realized with the help of long-time collaborators Chris Sigda, Jim Tomlinson, Dave Goletz, Willie Rose, and on the final song, Into It. Over It.’s Evan Weiss.
This reissue of Koji’s Some Small Way marks the first time the EP will be available on vinyl, and The Native Sound's first entry in an ongoing reissue series.)15.00
MEDICINE - home everywhere LP (captured - Brad Laner, Elizabeth Thompson and Jim Goodall have eschewed the 1990’s nostalgia touring circuit trod by their peers and instead dug deep to bring you ‘Home Everywhere’. The album is a collection of new songs created with a gaze that is omni-directional.) 18.00
MIASMAL - cursed redeemer LP (century media - Kneel before the throne of the “Cursed Redeemer”! Death metal of punishing intensity from Sweden is what MIASMAL offer on their second album containing eight gloomy, powerful, straight-forward and memorable songs with roaring growls, a punkish drive, massive riffs and stunning guitar melodies. Recorded at Studio Fredman (At The Gates, Vomitory) and visually garnered with a cover artwork by Mattias Frisk (Ghost, Vampire, Maim), “Cursed Redeemer” is an unforgettable lesson on what pure, unaffected death metal is about: brutal music with no mercy, no regrets, no ritualistic bullshit, no compromises.) 17.00
MONOTON - monotonprodukt 02 LP (desire - **Limited vinyl reissue of a legendary minimalist electronic classic. Remastered from original tapes by Matt Colton - comes with a printed inner and download code** No longer an unobtainable discogs fetish item, Konrad Becker's deeply prescient Monoton debut is reissued on wax 34 years since its original release. A predecessor of 'Monotonprodukt 07', which was hailed in The Wire magazine's 100 most important records of the 20th Century, this album murkily defined templates for swathes of artists in the dub, techno and the electronic nexus ever since, capturing a sort of intangible machine spirit in its greyscale tone and etheric, silty flux. We can clearly hear the future-primitive seeds of Torsten Pröfrock's Erosion or Dynamo projects in the murky 14 minutes of 'Dubwise', whilst the sylvan melodies, lolling drum machine and muttered vocals of 'Ein Wort' or 'Leben Im Dschungel' uncannily evoke that early '80s mittel European elektronische sound, and the dubbed out steel drum roil of 'Wirklichgeit' pre-echoes so, so much techno played in cavernous spaces. Strong tip to fans of Conrad Schnitzler, Cluster, Asmus Tietchens, Rhythm & Sound…) 17.00
NO AFRAID - Locked Out LP (react - NOT AFRAID is a Belgian hardcore (super)group featuring members of True Colors (Packo back in action on vocals, sounding harder than ever), Justice and Dead Stop. The LOCKED OUT LP is as diverse and intense as you would imagine from such a cast and brings together the unique qualities of each band without attempting to recreate them. NOT AFRAID combines the passion and intensity of True Colors with the creativity and groove of Justice, stomped mercilessly into the streets of Antwerpen by the boots of Dead Stop. While definitely inspired by classic 80's hardcore, the Locked Out sound is difficult to categorize into a specific subgenre. All things considered, this is a HARDCORE record, and one of the best you’ll hear all year.) 13.00
PIANOS BECOME THE TEETH - keep you LP (eoitaph - "Keep You" accelerates the band's trajectory from a melodic hardcore act to a group that creates heaviness and weight via raw emotion instead of distortion. It is an expansive statement that is defined as much by what the listener hears as it is the dramatic space that hangs between each note. The virtuosic musicianship of Pianos Become The Teeth has been re-contextualized into moody and haunting compositions such as "Repine," which features atmospheric strings and an instantly contagious chorus with a solid tribal rhythm. "Keep You" deals with familiar concepts like mortality and communication in an intensely personal way that's also remarkably relatable in its honesty.) 18.00
RORCAL / PROCESS OF GUILT - split LP (Sludgy, dismal, apocalyptic, these are words that can best describe Process Of Guilt in their monumental opener “Liar (Mouvement I).” The near nine minute track levels the bleak landscape into a steady monster of distortion, which is heightened by the stark vocals that rises as the track progresses. Thundering along like a colossal steamroller, it’s brought to a sudden halt near the end as the notes are played with a Sunn O)))-like intensity. The harmonious disillusion bleeds into “Liar (Mouvement II)” while the pace is picked up a bit. The occasional industrial electronic overtones complements the music quite nicely, I can really see this as a fan favorite in a live setting. The major difference between this track and “Liar (Mouvement I)” is that this is more driven and lead along by the drums, as opposed to the first tracks riffs being the central focus. Not really much I can say about “Liar (Mouvement III)” other than that it’s high pitched guitar distortion. I’ve been a huge personal fan of Rorcal ever since I accidentally came across their full length track “Heliogabalus” while looking through Youtube for random black metal bands. A quick note to readers, that track (which is available to download for free from the band’s Tumblr page) is a great soundtrack for Evil Dead 2013. Back to the split, “IX” Is a prime example of excellent swiss black metal. Structured on a subtle underlying groove, “IX” provides a paranoid type of guitar tone reminiscent of Ron Jarzombek’s riffs on Blotted Science’s The Animation of Entomology EP. The next track “X” is performed on a grander scale, with definitive moments of attention grabbing crescendo, riff and drum demolition, and back to structured melancholy that brings a similarity to the most recent Mayhem release Esoteric Warfare. This isn’t your grandpa’s black metal, if you’re prone to anxiety, this isn’t an album you should be listening to. ( new noise magazine )) 12.00
RUN THE JEWELS - RUN THE JEWELS 2 DLP (Run The Jewels, the super dynamic duo of El-P and Killer Mike, two of the most distinctive and celebrated names in rap, are set to release their sophomore album, Run The Jewels 2, on Mass Appeal Records. The immensely anticipated album includes guests ranging from Zack de la Rocha to Travis Barker amongst others, but the duo maintains that the album is first and foremost about the creative partnership between the MCs themselves.) 27.00
RUN THE JEWELS (EL P & KILLER MIKE) - same LP + 12" (big dada – back in stock - El P + Killer Mike = Run The Jewels. Rap’s most dangerous duo have teamed up with Fool’s Gold for their debut album. SLEAFORD MODS - Fizzy LP (a records - 2 track 12" with etched side! "Fizzy" is a studio recording and was recorded in the summer of 2012. "'Urine Mate' (welcome to the club)" was recorded live at the German club Skalitzer Berlin August 24th 2013 featuring John Paul who does the introduction to the song. Anton Newcombe met the band online and as a fan of the band he wanted to release a single on his label. "'Urine Mate' (welcome to the club)" is an exclusive version of this track to this release, "Fizzy" can be found on the album Austerity Dogs released 2013 on Harbinger Sound. Jason says "Fizzy" was inspired by the many thousands of psychopathic managers and supervisors that terrorise low paid workers throughout the world on a daily basis) 14.00
ULTIMATE PAINTING - s/t LP (trouble in mind - Jack Cooper & James Hoare are Ultimate Painting. The two formed a fast friendship when Jack’s band Mazes were on tour supporting James’ band Veronica Falls, sharing similar tastes in music, art & films. It wasn’t until after returning home that a musical synergy was formed. After numerous demos were exchanged, a few casual jam sessions turned into something more; a partnership. Christening themselves after a piece of art by the Southern Colorado desert community (and fanciful geodesic dome builders) “Drop City”, the lads set to work recording their debut proper. “Ultimate Painting”s ten songs are the fruits of that labor; a collaboration in the truest sense, with each member composing five songs each creating a seamless journey that is both pastoral & cosmopolitan. Starting off with the breezy “Ultimate Painting”, the tone is set; a woozy & deliberate tune whose simple melody is complimented by two intertwining guitar lines that ride off into the sunset. The album catches fire after that, from the melodically mellow “Can’t You See?” & the yearning, gothic romance of “Riverside” to the buoyant “Rolling In The Deep End” & “Jane” whose sunny melodies belie the workings of the classic “Femme Fatale” who will “bring destruction to you...” “Ten Street” is the centerpiece of the record, a shuffling head-bopper with hook after hook that ends in two blazing, interlocking guitar solos. The album closes on with “Winter In Your Heart”, a song about embracing new paths that life presents - awash in a fog of fond melancholy for chapters past. Ultimate Painting is a new chapter for both of these fellas & the future looks very exciting.

V/A - Bay Area Retrograde (BART) Vol. 2 LP (dark entries - Bay Area Retrograde (BART) Volume 2 is Dark Entries’ second compilation of underground music from San Francisco (and the greater Bay Area) made between 1978-1983. Towards the end of the 70s, San Francisco’s experimental music scene clashed with the aftermath of punk and gave birth to a vibrant underground. By the early to mid 80s the DIY music scene of the Bay Area was a hotbed for experimental and quirky new wave, post punk, and synthpop, quite similar to New York’s No Wave scene and Berlin’s Neue Deutsche Welle. This compilation connects the (transit) lines between these varied musical offerings and tells the secret story of eleven forgotten Bay Area bands. BART Volume 2 features slow, dystopian horror from pioneering industrial group Factrix; crushing, motorik noise from acid punks Chrome; amphetamine-driven synth punk from Red Asphalt; an early demo, never released on vinyl, from legendary post punk band Tuxedoomon; chilling atmospheric drone from Ki Di Me; leftfield new wave from Indoor Life featuring Patrick Cowley on synths; Los Microwaves more sinister side project Baby Buddha; gay drag icon Timmy Spence delivering an unknown camp classic, a pure instrumental electro-pop workout from Human Being Men; TR-808 fueled synth pop from Menlo Park duo Wonders of Science, and a poetic yet somber and haunting song from the mysterious Zru Vogue. All tracks have been carefully remastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. Each LP is housed in a large 6-panel, 2-sided fold out poster designed by Eloise Leigh, featuring original photos and fliers from each band’s personal archive plus a 36”x24” print of a photograph by Ruby Ray from1978. BART is the acronym for Bay Area Rapid Transit, the main rail transportation system for the San Francisco Bay Area. This LP is by no means a definitive compilation but merely opens the tunnel to the underground of the Bay!) 22.00
